Poughkeepsie, NY – Vassar College Head Women's Soccer Coach
Keith Simons has announced that assistant coach
Samantha Schmidt will step down from her position on the Brewers' staff to accept the Women's Soccer head coaching position at SUNY Delhi.
Schmidt spent the 2024 season on Simons' staff and helped lead the Brewers to one of the finest years in program history. Vassar finished the campaign 12-4-5 overall and 5-1-3 in Liberty League play, advancing to the Liberty League Championship Semifinal Round and earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Making its second ever appearance in the National Tournament, Vassar earned its first win in program history on the national stage, advancing to the Second Round with a victory over St. Mary's-Maryland.
"Sam was a very important part of a historic season for our program. Her influence was felt in all aspects of the program and she will be missed. I'm very excited to see what she's capable of as a head coach," said Simons.
In 2024, Vassar lead the Liberty League in goals and points and finished second in the conference in assists. On the defensive end, the Brewers allowed just under one goal per contest.
Schmidt helped mentor six All-Liberty League selections in 2024, including Rookie of the Year
Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO). Crowley closed an impressive rookie season as a First Team selection and finished the season ranked second in the league in goals and third in points.
A search will commence immediately to fill the assistant coaching position.
