Faculty Athletic Support Team (FAST)
The
VC FAST program was developed to enlist the support of the Vassar College Faculty to strengthen the relationship between the students, student-athletes, faculty and coaches. FAST members help support programs in an informal fashion by attending competitions and engaging student-athletes and coaches off the playing field. They can be invited to games, team gathers, meals and community service projects to further the lines of communication and friendship.
Matthew Vassar's vision of the integration of physical training into the academic and extracurricular activities that make up a "thorough, well-proportioned and liberal education" is of particular emphasis in the Vassar Athletics & Physical Education Department and of this organization.
Other focus points of this organization are to:
- To support the academic mission of the college while promoting awareness to the ways in which intercollegiate athletics enhance the mission of the college.
- To encourage student-athletes both in the classroom and on the playing fields/facilities to reach both their academic and athletic potential.
- To serve as mentors to the student-athletes by providing an opportunity to meet and experience time outside the traditional classroom in a more informal nature.
- To serve as ambassadors of the team while meeting and greeting parents, friends, other faculty and alumni at home athletic games and contests.
- To encourage sportsmanship at home events and encourage non-student-athletes to attend games and events in support of the program.
- To support the "faculty" coaches and staff of the department who play an integral role in promoting the goals and objectives of Vassar College.
