MADISON, N.J. – Featuring a small squad of nine fencers, the Vassar men's fencing team wrapped up the Drew Invitational with a 3-3 record on Saturday. Freshman
Chris Gaehde (Brookline, MA) had a career day, going 18-0 in the foil field.

Joining Gaehde in foil were fellow freshmen
Chase Estes (Naples, FL) and
Caleb Klein (Chappaqua, NY). At epee was Alden Poerson Smela (Minneapolis, MN),
Sean Yang (Vestal, NY) and
Ben Papsun (North Haven, CT), while sabre included
Nicholas Williams (Morris, CT),
Max Deak San Diego, CA) and
Tom Possidente (Saratoga Springs, NY). Throughout the day, foil led Vassar 38-16, while epee was 24-20 and sabre finished at 27-28.

The Brewers dropped their opening two matches against Drew and Navy by scores of 12-15, but rebounded with an 18-9 victory over Pittsburgh in the third round. Vassar was edged by Florida 13-14, but closed the day with a 14-13 decision over Army and then a solid 19-8 win against Hunter.

The Brewers continue action on Sun. Dec. 2 at the Sacred Heart Traditional Multi-Meet.
