Poughkeepsie, NY - Sophomore Alexander North improved his regional finish from a season ago as he earned a ninth place finish in epee for the Vassar College Men's Fencing team at the NCAA Northeast Regionals inside Walker Field House on Sunday. This marks the highest regional finisher for the Brewers since Nick Johnson in 2012, who finished sixth overall in epee to qualify for the NCAA National Championship, and Vassar will await the NCAA Championship selections on Tuesday.

Epee

• Opening Round
  • First year Jing Seto secured three victories in pool #2 over Dylan Schroeder (Brandeis), Jabreel Green (LIU) and Alexander Tafur (Harvard) to advance to the quarterfinal round.
  • Senior Brian Li batted four foes in pool #1.
• Quarterfinal Round
  • North punched his ticket to the semifinals following three victories over Julius DeStefano (NYU), Adam Horvath (St. John's) and Konstantin Vaysbukh (Yale) in pool #3.
  • Seto narrowly missed advancing after scoring three wins over Zichun Wang (Brandeis), Alex Sennewald (Boston College) and Daniel Lee (Yale) in pool #1.
• Semifinal Round
  • North garnered four victories to advance to the final pool of 12 for the second straight season.
  • North defeated Jordan McCarty (NYU), Luke Loncar (Columbia), Samuel Imrek (St. John's) and Thomas Wheelan (Yale) in the semifinal round in pool #2.
• Final Round
  • North tallied a ninth place finish in the final round, improving from his 12th place finish last season, after registering five victories in the final pool of 12 fencers.
  • North toppled Julien Lim (Columbia), Mohamed Elsayed Singh (LIU), Soma Somody (LIU), Samuel Imrek (St. John's) and Ivan Goriunov (Boston College) in the final round.

Foil

• Opening Round
  • Sophomore Ethan Capra earned two victories in pool #2 over Charles Pederson (Wheaton) and Lovro Prosoli (LIU).
  • Sophomore Alexander Gobbo scored a win pool #3 over David Xing (Hunter).
  • Sophomore Kahlil Salome battled against four foes in pool #1.

Sabre

• Opening Round
  • Senior Oliver Berger collected three wins in pool #3 over Munir Aldabagh (LIU), Justin Roberts (St. John's) and Zhenhao Liu (NYU) to advance to the quarterfinal round.
  • Sophomore David Sagardi Diaz also advanced to the quarterfinals after three victories in pool #4 against Henry Wildes (Yeshiva), Oliver Lindholm (Sacred Heart) and Vincent Hong (NYU).
  • Sophomore Karthik Shankar tallied two wins over Tai Flot (LIU) and Oliver Smink (Wheaton) in pool #1.
  • Sophomore Devan McCarthy scored two victories against Eduardo Duarte (LIU) and Alex Piwowar (Brandeis) in pool #2.
  • First year Jason Jensby garnered two wins over Eric Wang (MIT) and Avy Nakache-Habib (Yeshiva) in pool #5.
• Quarterfinal Round
  • Sagardi Diaz posted two wins in pool #4 against Jonathan Morales (Sacred Heart) and Rohan Dalal (MIT) to finish 28th overall.
  • Berger finished with two victories in pool #5 over David Frumgarzts (Yale) and Lukas Eichhorn (Boston College) for a 27th place finish.
