Strand Earns Three Wins In Men’s Swimming & Diving Loss To Pace

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 27, 2018) – Vassar College senior Jonah Strand posted three individual victories on Saturday afternoon, but the Brewer men's swimming and diving team dropped a 166-87 decision to Division II Pace University from Kresge Pool on the campus of Vassar College.
 
Strand was strong throughout the meet, earning victories in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events while finishing with a win in the 200 IM as well. Strand's first win of the day came in the 100 breaststroke, as he outsprinted Alec Young of Pace with a 1:00.09 for the nine points.
 
The senior later would swim a 2:11.30 in the 200 breaststroke, winning by over nine seconds, and finished the day with a 2:01.48 to just edge Daniel Galarza with a 2:01.48. The Brewers started the afternoon with a great swim in the 200 medley relay, as Max White, Strand, Harrison Taylor and Matthew Imiolek were just edged out at the wall to finish second with a 1:39.56.

The divers also had a strong day on Saturday, as senior Connor Martin and junior Marvin Corleto went 1-2 in the 1-meter diving event. Corleto chalked up a career-best point total of 145.10, but was just edged by his senior teammate as Martin countered with 147.50 points to earn the victory.
 
Sophomore Jordan Kalina was second in the 1000 freestyle after swimming a 10:17.74 with a season-best time, improving his time by 2.4 percent of his previous season-best. Imiolek chalked up a personal-best in the 200 free Saturday with a 1:57.26, and teammate Finn Belanger also established a new personal best with a 1:59.72.
 
In the 100 backstroke, White earned second place after swimming a 54.59, and Taylor chalked up a nice personal best in the 200 butterfly of 2:09.02. The 100 free saw Imiolek finish second after registering a 52.72, while Taylor established a new season-best time of 52.18. Teammate Parker Bartz also swam a personal-best 52.83 in the 100 free.
 
The 500 freestyle featured a personal-best by Belanger, as he collected a 5:22.56, and White was second in the 100 butterfly after swimming a season-best of 53.13. Vassar's 400 free relay also posted a 3:25.08 to finish second as well.
 
The Brewers will travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. for a non-conference road meet with the Red Hawks.
