POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 27, 2017) – The Vassar College men's fencing team will host its third and final home invitational of the 2017-18 season on Sunday, welcoming some of the best teams in the nation for the annual Traditional Multi-Meet. Vassar will look to stay undefeated against five of the nation's top 10 teams.

Last Time Out: The Vassar College men's fencing team won its eighth consecutive Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational last weekend, moving its season mark to an unblemished 13-0 on the year. Sophomore
Noe Berger was 18-0 on the day, while freshman
Evin Heintz was also 18-0 for the afternoon. The Vassar foil team went 53-1 on the day, while the sabre team chalked up 48 wins in 54 matches.
A Look At The Brewers (13-0):
- The Brewers have been paced by its foil squad this year, which has posted a 94-22 record thus far.
- Senior Tom Racek leads the team with a 28-3 record, while squad mates Adlai Brandt-Ogman and Noe Berger each have 27 bout victories.
- Vassar's sabre team has shown a ton of depth, as five people have 10 or more wins, led by the 31 from Evin Heintz.
- Sophomore Graeme Mills has chalked up a 15-6 sabre record, while Eric Lee has posted victories in 16 of his 18 bouts.
- In epee, Vassar is 87-29 on the season, including going 39-15 last week at the Lampell Invitational.
- Freshman Michael Jaklitsch has a squad-best 30-6 record on the year, going 13-3 his last time out.
- Senior George Whiteside has yet to fence a full load this season, but he is undefeated in his six epee bouts.
- Senior Daniel Swerzenski is 23-8 on the year, while Jonathan Alperstein has registered 12 victories. Seven of eight VC fencers this year that have at least one epee bout have winning records.
- Vassar will be looking to improve on its record in the Multi-Meet over the last four seasons, as the Brewers have gone 1-20 at the event since 2013.
A Look At The Traditional Multi-Meet:
- Harvard sports the reigning national title holder in sabre in Eli Dershwitz, while the foil team is paced by George Haglund, who was seventh at the NCAA Championships last year.
- Harvard also will go to junior Albert Chien in epee, who finished seventh at the NCAA Championships last year, defeating Jonathan Alperstein 5-2 in the process.
- The University of Pennsylvania will go to junior Justin Yoo in epee, who was the national runner-up last year. Teammate Zsombor Garzo also competed at the NCAA Championships in epee last year.
- UPenn's sabre team returns two NCAA Championships participants in Julian Merchant and Adam Green, while the foil team is led by All-American John Vaiani and teammate Willie Upbin.
- Princeton's sabre team is paced by Edward Chin, who was an NCAA qualifier last year, while Thomas Dudley and Samuel Barmann will be strong in foil for the Tigers.
- Junior captain Wesley Johnson was third in the NCAA Championships in 2016-17, and returns this season as a favorite to win the national title.
- PSU is paced in sabre by Andrew Mackiewicz and Karol Metryka, while Anton Piskovatskov is back for his junior season.
- NJIT had two NCAA qualifiers last year, including seniors Simon Rizell in foil and Eduardo Ezcurra in epee.
- NYU gets junior Grant Williams back to lead the sabre team, after finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships last season. The foil team for NYU is very deep, led by senior captain Philip Shin.
