POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2016) — The Vassar College men's tennis team (7-12) plays its penultimate home game of the regular season against The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Vassar most recently went toe-to-toe with rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, but lost by a close 5-4 decision on Sunday. Duo Juan Felipe Laso and Alexander Luckmann defeated Suryanish Patel and Sundar Devakottai at three, 8-3, for Vassar's lone doubles victory. Laso continued to find success in singles, taking down Anthony Kim at four, 6-4, 7-5. Nick Lee also had a comeback win, taking No. 6 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, against Devakottai after falling in the first set. Jamie Anderson was the third Brewer to find success in singles, defeating Patel at five, 6-1, 7-6(2). 

A Look at the Lions of TCNJ (7-5)
The Lions have taken their last two outings, topping Lafayette College 7-0 on April 14 and Christopher Newport University 9-0 on April 17. The Lions have fared well at home with a 5-3 record and have been even on the road with a 2-2 mark. Jack August is the Lion to look out for. He paces the team with a 9-3 record in singles play, as well with a 9-3 mark in doubles with partner Mike Stanley. Before TCNJ heads to Poughkeepsie, it'll host Ursinus College on Tuesday. 

Last Meeting
Vassar and TCNJ last faced each other in Ewing, NJ on Feb. 14, 2015, with the Lions coming out on top, 9-0. In singles action, three bouts went to three sets, including the No. 2 match between Jack August and Daniel Cooper. After taking the first set 6-3, Cooper fell in the final two, 7-6 (7-4) in the second and 10-6 in the third. Juan Felipe Laso took Chris D'Agostino to three in the No. 4 match, winning the first 6-4, before falling in the final two frames, 7-5, 10-5. After going down 6-4 in the first set of the No. 6 match, Luckmann battled back with a 6-0 victory in the second to even the match, but Dan Presuto sealed the win with a 10-7 victory in the third.

Liberty League Standings
Vassar (7-12, 3-2) sits fourth in the Liberty League, ahead of Hobart College (7-7, 2-2), Rochester Institute of Technology (3-5, 2-2), Union College (2-10, 1-4) and Bard College (2-8, 0-7). Only Skidmore College (10-3), St. Lawrence University (8-7, 4-1) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-7, 3-2) is ahead of Vassar. So far in conference play, the Brewers have notched in-conference wins over Union, Bard and RIT.

Laso In The Wins
Juan Felipe Laso came out victorious in both doubles and singles, as Vassar fell to rival RPI on the road Sunday, 5-4. Laso locked in for the Brewers for an incredible showing. The junior first teamed up with partner Alexander Luckmann to defeat Suryanish Patel and Sundar Devakottai at No. 3 doubles, 8-3. Laso continued to find success in singles, taking down Anthony Kim at four, 6-4, 7-5. With that, Laso owns a 13-8 record, tied for most wins with two other Brewers so far this season.

Mr. Anderson
In his first rivalry matchup, Jamie Anderson fared well against RPI, defeating Suryansh Patel at five, 6-1, 7-6 (2). The freshman was one of three Brewers to notch a win in singles, as RPI edged Vassar 5-4. Anderson has now won his past two matches to have a total of seven wins on the season.

Vassar men's tennis hits the road for the penultimate game of the regular season. The Brewers will face the Saints of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m.
