Jauregui Breaks Own 100-Yard Backstroke Record; Brewers Rank Seventh At Liberty League Championship

First Year broke previous record set Friday morning

Ithaca, NY – Vassar College First Year Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) set another school record on Friday evening in the Finals Session of the 2024 Liberty League Championship. Jauregui set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke for the Brewers, who are in seventh-place through Day Three of the Championship with 278.5 points.

Jauregui broke the previous school record which stood since 2014 in Friday's preliminary session and bested his own mark in Friday's final with a time of 50.27 seconds, good for a fourth-place finish overall.
Jauregui was one of three swimmers to compete in Friday's final in the backstroke event with Sam Deluca (Mifflinburg, PA) placing 17^th overall and James Hatch (Los Altos, CA) taking the 19^th position competing in the 'C' Final. Deluca posted a time of 54.31 seconds with Hatch touching out in 56.40 seconds.
Three Brewers scored in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday evening with Rory Stumpf (Potomac, MD), Ricky Kurosawa (Las Vegas, NV) and Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) all competing in the 'C' Final. Stumpf led the trio after placing 19^th overall in a time of 1:00.27 with Kurosawa and Ehrenfeld following with times of 1:00.53 and 1:01.93.
Tyler Tsukuda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) swam to a 23^rd place overall finish in the 'C' Final of the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 2:07.06 for the Brewers.
To closes out Friday's session, the 'B' 800-yard freestyle team of Alex Graber (Harrison, NY), Daniel Furman (Secaucus, NJ), Hatch and Robin Auwaerter (Syracuse, NY) touched out in a time of 7:38.43 for the Brewers.

What's Next

Vassar will open the final day of the Liberty League Championship on Saturday with preliminary swims starting at 10:00 a.m.
