Greenwood, IN – The Vassar College Men's Swimming and Diving Team saw four student-athletes recognized with College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Accolades Tuesday afternoon.
John Gao (Ann Arbor, MI),
James Hatch (Los Altos, CA),
Eli House (Oneonta, NY) and
Laszlo Lawless (Monterey, CA) all received recognition for their excellence both in the pool and in the classroom.
Gao, receives All-District honors for the first time as a sophomore after landing a spot on the Liberty League All-Academic Team. Gao had a strong season in the pool for the Brewers, highlighted by a 12
th-place swim in the 100-yard backstroke at the Liberty League Championship Meet. In addition to a strong individual effort, Gao was a member of the 200-tard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams that finished fifth at the championship meet.
Hatch, a senior Cognitive Science major, earns Academic All-District honors for the third time in 2026. Hatch, also a member of the Liberty League All-Academic Team, closed out the 2026 Liberty League Championship meet with a 19
th-place swim in the 100-yard backstroke and a 22
nd-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke.
House, a sophomore Astronomy and Physics major, earns his second academic honor of the season after landing on the Liberty League All-Academic Team. Along with Gao, House swam as part of both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams that placed fifth at the 2026 Liberty League Championship. Individually, House earned a 12
th-place finish for the Brewers in the 50-yard freestyle at the league championship meet.
Rounding out the quartet of academic honorees is Lawless who is also a member of the Liberty League All-Academic Team. A distance freestyle specialist, Lawless swam to a 22
nd-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2026 Liberty League Championship Meet.
Vassar concluded the 2025-26 season with a pair of wins in dual meet competition and placed seventh at the Liberty League Championship Meet.
