Ithaca, NY – First Year
Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) highlighted a strong Friday morning preliminary session for the Vassar Men's Swimming and Diving team, setting a new school record for the Brewers in the 100-yard backstroke.
Jauregui, who broke the school record in both the 50 and 100-yard butterfly events twice on Thursday and the 50-yard backstroke on Wednesday, added another individual record on Friday when he swam a time of 50.89 in the 100-yard backstroke. Jauregui's time bests the previous mark of 51.23 set in 2014.
Jauregui was one of three Brewers to qualify for the Finals in the 100-yard backstroke with
Sam Deluca (Mifflinburg, PA) swimming a time of 56.29 seconds and
James Hatch (Los Altos, CA) touching out in 57.22 seconds.
Ricky Kurosawa (Las Vegas, NV) paced three Vassar swimmers who moved through to the Finals in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday morning. Kurosawa qualified with a time of 1:00.75 with
Rory Stumpf (Potomac, MD) swimming a time of 1:01.25 and
Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) adding a mark of 1:01.87.
Junior
Tyler Tsukuda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) swam into the Friday Finals in the 200-yard butterfly for the Brewers, touching out in a time of 2:08.61.
The 800-yard medley 'B' relay team of Alex Garber (Harrison, NY),
Daniel Furman (Secaucus, NJ), Hatch and
Robin Auwaerter (Syracuse, NY) posted a sixth-place finish in their preliminary race, showing a time of 7:38.43.
The Brewers will look to improve their sixth-place team standing Friday evening when the Finals Session gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
