Ithaca, NY – Vassar College First Year
Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) set two new school records on Thursday as the Men's Swimming and Diving team continued competition at the 2024 Liberty League Championship.
Jauregui qualified fourth on Thursday morning in the 100-yard butterfly and in the process set a pair of new school marks. Jauregui broke his own 100-yard butterfly record of 50.80 seconds with a time of 50.16 seconds. In addition to the 100-yard record, Jauregui's first 50-yard split set a new school record of 23.22 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 23.49 seconds set on February 16, 2022.
Jauregui was one of three Brewers to move through to Thursday's finals in the 100-yard butterfly, with senior
Han Ryu (Chantilly, VA) earning a spot in the 'C' Final with a swim of 53.52 seconds and
Sam Deluca posting a time of 54.38 seconds.
First Year
Alex Graber (Harrison, NY) turned in a strong swim for the Brewers in the 400-yard individual medley, moving through to the 'C' Final on Thursday evening with a time of 4:32.17 in Thursday's preliminary session.
Lukas Johnson (Minneapolis, MN) and
Rory Stumpf (Potomac, MD) each swam their way into the 'C' Final in the 200-yard freestyle on Thursday with Johnson posting a time of 1:47.55 and Stumpf following closely in a time of 1:47.85.
Vassar also had big swims in each of the two relay events contested Thursday morning. The 'A' 200-yard freestyle team of Jauregui, Ryu, Johnson and
Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) were the seventh fastest squad in prelims with a time of 1:26.22. The 'B' team of
Daniel Furman (Secaucus, NJ), Garber,
Croix Horsley (Cinnaminson, NJ) and Stumpf will compete in the 'B' Final after touching out in a time of 1:31.74 Thursday morning.
Both of the Brewers' 400-yard medley relay teams also swam through to the final session on Thursday evening. The 'A' quartet of Jauregui,
Ricky Kurosawa (Las Vagas, NV), Ryu and Ehrenfeld qualified fourth with a time of 3:30.79. The 'B" team of
James Hatch (Los Altos, CA), Furman, Deluca and Horsley will compete in the 'B" final after swimming a time of 3:45.96.
Thursday's Finals session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
