NEW HAVEN, CT (February 3, 2018) – The Vassar College women's fencing team got two bout victories from senior sabre fencer
Annie Innes-Gold, but Ivy League opponent Yale University was just too strong in the end as the Bulldogs picked up a 23-4 win over the Brewers Saturday in action from the Yale Fencing Salon.
Innes-Gold chalked up wins over a pair of Yale fencers, defeating Mary Barnett 5-3 while also picking up a 5-2 victory over Lauren Kim. In epee, junior
Rose Hulsey-Vincent outlasted Michelle Li in the final bout of the round with a 4-3 win. Hulsey-Vincent nearly earned another win to start the match, but fell to Lucy Friedmann 5-4.
In foil, junior
Sophie Blumenstock continued her strong fencing after returning to the team after a semester abroad, picking up one victory as well for VC.
The Brewers will return to the strip next Saturday at the second and final day of Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) action, traveling to Smith College to take on host Smith College, Dartmouth College, Boston University, Wellesley College, Sacred Heart University and the University of Massachusetts at 10 a.m. in Southampton, MA.
