Epee Finishes Second Overall, Six Brewers Earn EWFC All-Conference Honors

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Women's Fencing team hosted the EWFC Championships on Sunday at Walker Field House as the epee squad earned a second place team finish along with first year Veronica Scherk, junior Nika Ungurianu and first year Lela Mittman scoring All-Conference honors in epee. First year Mercer Colby, sophomore Lily Paine and senior Abigail Geiger also each earned All-Conference accolades in sabre. Geiger was also named to the EWFC All-Academic team.

Round One - Vassar 24 Yeshiva 3
  • Epee - VC 9 YES 0
    • Scherk and Ungurianu each scored perfect 3-0 rounds.
    • Senior Aanya Mukherjee tallied two wins along with Mittman earning a victory.
  • Foil - VC 7 YES 2
  • Sabre - VC 8 YES 1
    • Paine and Geiger all posted three victories.
    • Senior Vanessa Mark picked up two wins.
Round Two - Vassar 19 Haverford 8
  • Epee - VC 7 HAV 2
    • Ungurianu garnered three wins while Mittman and Scherk scored two wins each.
  • Foil - VC 6 HAV 3
    • North scored three wins while sophomore Sushama Gadiyaram picked up two victories.
    • Huynh also recorded a win.
  • Sabre - VC 6 HAV 3
    • Colby and Paine all recorded perfect 3-0 rounds.
    • Mark battled in three bouts.
Round Three - Vassar 23 CCNY 4
  • Epee - VC 7 CCNY 2
    • Mittman and Ungurianu posted perfect 3-0 rounds,
    • Mukherjee tallied a victory.
  • Foil - VC 8 CCNY 1
    • North and Huynh scored three wins each while Gadiyaram earned two wins.
  • Sabre - VC 8 CCNY 1
    • Paine and Colby earned undefeated 3-0 rounds while Mark tallied two wins.
Round Four - Vassar 16 Stevens 11
  • Epee - VC 7 STEV 2
    • Mittman recorded three more victories along with Scherk and Ungurianu posted two wins each.
  • Foil - STEV 6 VC 3
    • Gadiyaram scored two victories while Huynh added a win.
    • Rosenmayr battled in three bouts.
  • Sabre - VC 6 STEV 3
    • Wei, Geiger and Paine all earned two wins each.
Round Five - Johns Hopkins 16 Vassar 11
  • Epee - VC 6 JHU 3
    • Scherk posted an undefeated 3-0 round while Mittman scored two victories.
    • Mukherjee added a victory.
  • Foil - JHU 9 VC 0
    • North, Yu and Rosenmayr all battled in three bouts.
  • Sabre - VC 5 JHU 4
    • Colby secured three victories while Wei and Geiger earned a win each.
    • Paine fenced in three bouts.
Round Six - Wellesley 20 Vassar 7
  • Epee - WELL 5 VC 4
    • Mittman secured two victories along with Scherk and Mukherjee scoring a win each.
  • Foil - WELL 9 VC 0
    • North, Yu and Gadiyaram each battled in three bouts.
  • Sabre - WELL 6 VC 3
    • Paine scored two victories along with Colby adding one win.
    • Geiger fenced in three bouts.
Round Seven - Tufts 22 Vassar 5
  • Epee - TUFTS 7 VC 2
    • Ungurianu and Scherk each scored a victory.
    • Mittman battled in two bouts while Mukherjee fenced in one bout.

    • North, Gadiyaram and Huynh all batted in three bouts.

    • Colby picked up two victories along with Paine earning a win.
    • Geiger fenced in three bouts.

    • Ungurianu, Scherk and Mittman all tallied two victories.
    • Mukherjee battled in one bout.
  • Foil - DREW 9 VC 0
    • Rosenmayr battled in three bouts along with Gadiyaram and Huynh fencing in two bouts.
    • North and Yu each competed in one bout.
  • Sabre - VC 6 DREW 3
    • Geiger earned a perfect 3-0 round while Colby secured two wins.
    • Mark added a victory.
Round Nine - Vassar 18 Hunter 9
  • Epee - VC 9 HUNT 0
    • Mittman, Mukherjee and Scherk all earned three victories each.
  • Foil - HUNT 6 VC 3
    • North earned two victories while Gadiyaram also scored a win.
    • Rosenmayr battled in three bouts along with Yu fencing in two bouts.
  • Sabre - VC 6 HUNT 3
    • Geiger was undefeated in the round while Paine scored two victories.
    • Mark added a win.
