BALTIMORE, MD (February 18, 2018) -- The Vassar College women's fencing team competed in the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championships Sunday at Johns Hopkins University, finishing fourth as a team while four Brewers finished in the top ten in the individual round bracket.
Vassar knocked off Haverford College 14-13, while also defeating Hunter College (17-10), City College of New York (25-2) and Yeshiva University (26-1). VC fell to host Johns Hopkins (21-6), Drew University (16-11) and Stevens Institute of Technology (20-7). Individually, junior
Rose Hulsey-Vincent finished as the epee runner-up medalist, and senior
Annie Innes-Gold was third in the sabre bracket. Juniors
Sophie Blumenstock and
Mirit Rutishauser finished seventh and eighth in foil action, respectively.
Hulsey-Vincent was named EWFC First Team for her fencing in the epee finals, while she helped the epee team to victories over CCNY, Hunter and Yeshiva. Innes-Gold was also named to the EWFC First Team after finishing third behind two JHU fencers, while teammates
Lilia Hutchinson and
Rose Parker finished in the top half of the draw as well.
In foil, both Blumenstock and Rutishauser earned Second Team All-EWFC honors, while weapon mate
Zoe Morgan advanced to the foil finals taking 16th place.
VC will be back in action this upcoming weekend at the NEIFC Championships at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.
