POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar men's fencing team captured its ninth-consecutive Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational title on Sunday. The Vassar "A" squad went undefeated in opening pool play and then cruised past Binghamton, Drew and Florida in the championship bracket.

The Brewers went 7-0 on the day, and move to 13-2 overall this season. The Vassar "A" team went 4-0 in the pool first defeating Drew 22-5. They went on to down RIT 22-5, sweep Marist 27-0 and then close with a 22-5 victory over Binghamton. Vassar "B" also went undefeated in the pool. First edging out Florida 14-13 and then posting wins over RPI (20-7), Cornell (23-4), Rochester (17-10).

Vassar clinched the top seed in the bracket and opened with a 16-0 decision over Binghamton. The Brewers went 17-6 against Drew and then rolled past Florida 15-2 in the title match.

Individually, the Brewers "A" squad went 44-11 in sabre, 54-3 in the foil and 44-8 in epee. Foil had a standout day, with
Chris Gaehde (Brookline, MA) going undefeated at 19-0.
Adlai Brandt-Ogman (South Salem, NY) went 19-1 while
Caleb Klein (Chappaqua, NY) finished 16-2.

The "A" sabre squad consisted of
Evin Heintz (Pearland, TX),
Tom Possidente (Saratoga Springs, NY) and
Graeme Mills (Boston, MA). Heintz and Mills both pulled off a 16-0 day, while Possidente tacked on 10 wins.

Roman Guglielmo (New York, NY),
Michael Jaklitsch (Saint James, NY) and
Abram Gregory (North Smithfield, RI) was the main epee team. Jaklitsch recorded a perfect day, going 17-0, while Gregory and Guglielmo had solid bouts as well. Gregory went 13-2, while Guglielmo chalked up 15 wins.

The Vassar "B" team was led by sabre fencers
Nicholas Williams (Morris, CT), Barsha Saha (Elmhurst, NY) and
Thomas Dadoly (Georgetown, TX) epee fencers
Nishay Bhatnagar (Livingston, NJ),
Alden Pierson Smela (Minneapolis, MN) and
Sean Yang (Vestal, NY), and foil fencers
Michael Skolnick (South Setauket, NY),
Ben Papsun (North Haven, CT) and Chases Estes (Naples, FL). The "B" squad tallied a bracket win over RPI (17-1) and finished fourth.

The Brewers return to the strips on Dec. 1 after a break next weekend, heading to the Drew Invitational.
