The Brewers got a strong afternoon from its sabre squad, led by senior Annie Innes-Gold and her 20-1 day. Teammate Lilia Hutchinson won 13 bouts. Vassar knocked off Queens College (19-8), Wagner College (15-12), CCNY (19-8) and Fairleigh Dickinson (15-12).

A Look At The Brewers (4-3):

  • Vassar is looking to defend the Matt Lampell team title for the third consecutive season, as the Brewers try to make it four straight seasons as the champions.
  • VC will rely again on its sabre team, which went 48-14 last week at the VC Invitational.
  • The Brewers were led in foil by Mirit Rutishauser, who chalked up 17 wins in her 21 bouts, going 3-0 against Queens, Wagner and CCNY.
  • Freshman Nicoletta Dinelli was solid in her first collegiate tournament, going 7-2 on the day in sabre.
  • Senior Zoe Morgan got her first action as a full-time starter at Vassar in foil, totaling 11 wins in 20 bouts last Sunday.
  • Senior Annie Innes-Gold won her first 14 bouts of the season before dropping a decision to Wagner, going 2-1 against the Seahawks.
  • Freshman Hannah Gaven was credited with five wins, while Grace Han and Ashley Kim each earned four victories apiece to pace the epee squad.
  • Vassar's epee team is starting three new competitors this season, until Rose Hulsey-Vincent returns from her semester abroad.
  • VC's foil team is also down a starter at the moment, as Sophie Blumenstock is studying abroad during the fall semester.

Up Next: Vassar will have a weekend off before hosting one of the biggest regular season meets of the year with the Traditional Multi-Meet. VC will play host to No. 7 Harvard, No. 6 Pennsylvania, Sacred Heart, No. 3 Princeton University, No. 4 Penn State University, No. 8 Temple University and New York University.
