POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 20, 2017) – The Vassar College men's fencing team will return to action following the Holiday break, traveling to Cleveland State University for six dual meets Saturday afternoon. The Brewer squad hasn't been on the strip since taking on some of the best in the nation at the Sacred Heart Traditional, earning wins over the host Pioneers and New Jersey Institute Technology.

A Look At The Brewers (16-4):
- The Brewers will be competing for the first time since December 4, and will fence the rest of their schedule on the road.
- Junior Jonathan Alperstein leads the team in victories with 43 this season, thanks to his 12 at Sacred Heart.
- Fellow junior Daniel Swerzenski has also been solid on the epee strip this season, as he totaled 24 wins going into the Sacred Heart meet, which was the second most on the epee team.
- Freshman Graeme Mills leads the sabre squad in dual meet victories so far, as the newcomer has posted 32 before the last time out. Mills posted two wins over Sacred Heart.
- Vassar's sabre team earned four bout wins against NJIT, with Eli Polston earning two wins while Mills and Campbell Woods each chalked up wins over their own in the 15-12 win over the Highlanders.
- The fifth match of the day was against Penn State, as Vassar earned seven more wins over the No. 5 Nittany Lions. In foil, Jack Holmes and junior Tom Racek each were 2-1, while Alperstein was an unblemished 3-0 against PSU.
- Swerzenski finished with three wins, and Alperstein earned a 5-4 win over Alexandre Crepeaux and 5-2 victory over Malcolm Lewis. Polston and Eric Lee each earned one win in the third round in sabre, while Noe Berger edged out Violet Yash Srivastav 5-4.
- This weekend's trip to Cleveland State marks the second time in the last four seasons that the team has gone to the second-largest city in Ohio.
Up Next: The Brewers will open up Northeast Fencing Conference action next Saturday at Brown University, traveling to Providence, RI to battle Brandeis University, Boston College, Brown and Tufts University.
