Last Time OutLast time the Brewers laced up they went toe-to-toe with Yeshiva University at home on the Walker Tennis Courts on April 3. The men turned around their two-game losing streak with a decisive win over the Maccabees, 7-2. After taking two of three in doubles, Vassar won the first three singles matches to secure the team victory.
Juan Felipe Laso topped Steven Jemel at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0,
Jamie Anderson defeated Charlie Friedman at five by the same score, and
Evan Udine beat Mikey Ozery at three, 6-0, 7-5.
A Look at the Engineers of MIT (4-3 overall, 0-0 NEWMAC)The Engineers have yet to play a conference match and have won four of their seven non-conference competitions so far this season. Freshman Sean Ko was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Week in February. At the same time, rookie Alex Cauneac and sophomore Bryan Lilley were named the NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week after all three had great performances in the opening weeks of the Engineers' spring season.
Last MeetingThe Brewers and the Engineers last saw each other in March 2015 when they competed in Cambridge. The Brewers dropped the match 3-6 to the then-No. 39 Engineers.
A Look at the Judges of Brandeis (7-3 overall, 0-0 UAA)The Judges will enter competition Saturday with a tremendous amount of momentum, as they are currently on a six-game winning streak. They've been undefeated since early March, dominating New York University, Rochester, Coast Guard, Babson, Wheaton, and Bates all this spring. Their last loss was a close one, 4-5 against Stevens also in early March. Brian Granoff leads the Judges with his 8-3 record in singles, while Ryan Bunis has the second-most wins with a 5-2 record. In doubles, Jeff Cherkin has secured the most wins with a 5-3 record with partners Michael Arguello (4-1), Zach Cihlar (1-1) and Granoff (0-1).
Last MeetingThe Brewers and Judges last faced off two years ago, in early March of 2014, when they played each other on Vassar's campus in Walker Field House. The Judges won decisively, trouncing the Brewers 7-2.
A Look at the Lions of Emerson College (5-0 overall, 0-0 NEWMAC)The Lions have survived the opening weeks of their spring season unscathed, with a perfect 5-0 record. All of their competitions so far have been non-conference, including the last two wins they picked up against Salve Regina and Suffolk, both by impressive scores of 8-1. The start of the season coincided with the start of new full-time head coach Daniel Munsey's career with the Lions. Emerson players Antonio Ramirez and Daniel Okin were both named NEWMAC Players of the Week and got nods in both Doubles and Singles in April.
Last MeetingThe Brewers haven't met the Lions on the court in the past ten seasons, but they will certainly prove formidable opponents given the strong start to their 2016 bid.
Dynamic DuoSenior
Evan Udine and junior
Nick Litsky were named the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week in late March, giving them some momentum coming into the weekend. The duo put the Brewers on the board with a dominant 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Steven Jemal and Charles Saka. That set the tone for the rest of the match, as the Brewers went on to win 7-2. As a pair, Litsky and Udine are now 4-0 in doubles on the season.
Honor Rollin'Senior
Daniel Cooper also got recognition from the Liberty League at the end of March, earning Honor Roll. He helped his squad to a 7-2 victory Sunday afternoon over Yeshiva, earning a 6-4, 7-6 (7) win over Dmitri Lebedyev at No. 2 singles.
Make That Five for the FreshmanFreshman
Jamie Anderson picked up his fifth win of the season Sunday. He held Charlie Friedman of Yeshiva to just one point, taking him down 6-1, 6-0 at five in the Brewers' 7-2 win.
Next UpAfter their tough upcoming weekend, the Brewers will compete in Liberty League play, as they face off against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. in Troy, NY.
