CLAREMONT, CA (March 17, 2016) - The Vassar College men's tennis started strong and finished stronger, but ultimately fell 6-3 to Trinity College in Claremont, CA on Thursday.
With the loss, the Brewers drop to 5-8, while the Bantams improve to 2-2.
Nick Litsky secured a win in both singles and in doubles with partner
Evan Udine, while
Daniel Cooper picked up the Brewers' third victory of the day in singles. In doubles, Litsky and Udine and now 2-0 on the season, while in singles, Litsky is 13-5 and Cooper is 11-4.
At No. 2 doubles, Litsky and Udine put the Brewers on the board with a dominating 8-1 win over Camden Smith and Carlos Ferreyros. But the Bantams took the next two doubles matches to carry momentum into singles play. At No. 1 doubles,
Daniel Cooper and
Nick Zuczek fell in a tight 8-6 match to Ford Traff and Rex Glickman, while
Juan Felipe Laso and
Alexander Luckmann lost with an 8-3 decision to Rutendo Matingo and William Boyd at the two.
Trinity picked up where it left off, winning the first four matches in singles play. Boyd built on what he accomplished in doubles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Nick Lee at the five, Aaron Segel took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Laso at the four, Matingo escaped with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Udine at the three, and Camden Smith came away with a close 6-4, 6-3 win over
Jamie Anderson at the six.
Still, the Brewers remained undeterred. At No. 1 singles, Litsky secured a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win over Traff, while Cooper claimed a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Glickman at the two.
The Vassar men's tennis team looks to carry that momentum into its final spring break match, a competition against Tufts University in Claremont, CA on Saturday at 9 a.m.
