POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 4th, 2016) – The Vassar College men's fencing team will travel this Sunday to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut to compete against some of the country's top teams. At the event, the Brewers will face fencers from Harvard University, Penn State University, New York University, Princeton University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and the aforementioned host, Sacred Heart University. The Brewers currently carry a 14-0 record overall.

A Look At The Brewers
- The Brewers are coming off of a strong weekend in which they hosted, and won, the Matt Lampell Invitational for the seventh consecutive time. Vassar lost only 24 bouts all day.
- Vassar has yet to lose a match this season and have done so in dominant fashion with their closest call coming in a 16-11 victory over Haverford College.
- Vassar's foil team was unstoppable in the Matt Lampell Invitational going 51-3 on the day, with one of those losses coming at the hands of another Vassar Fencer.
- For the foil squad, Tom Racek went 16-2, Jack Holmes finished 17-1, and Noe Berger stole the show with a perfect 18-0 record.
- The epee crew and sabre squad also had outstanding days as they went 44-10 and 43-11 respectively.
- Junior Jonathan Alperstein was a perfect 18-0 on the day with 15 wins at epee and three more at saber.
- Daniel Swerzenski and Ry Farley also performed well at epee going 15-3 and 9-0 on the day respectively.
- The Brewers honored their four seniors, Campbell Woods, Clayton Marr, Jackson Dammann, and Ry Farley on Senior Day at the Matt Lampell Invitational.
- The Vassar "B" team had a strong day as well finishing third overall in the event.
- Sabre fencer Eric Lee did well for the squad finishing with 13 victories.
A Look At The Field
- All six of Vassar's opponents this weekend finished in the top five at last years NCAA National Championship. Princeton (3), Penn State (6), Harvard (7), NJIT (10), NYU (13), and SHU (17)
- Sacred Heart returns with Junior Tyler Endee who finished 22nd individually in last year's foil NCAA National Championship.
- Sacred Heart enters this tournament with a 9-4 record. They went 6-2 in the Vassar Invitational earlier this season, but did not face off against the Brewers there.
- Harvard also comes into the weekend with a standout foilist in Stephen Mageras, who finished 7th individually at last years NCAA championship.
- Harvard has yet to compete this season.
- NYU has yet to compete in team NCAA competition this season, but did compete individually at the Temple Collegiate Open on October 30th.
- At the Temple Collegiate Open, sophomore sabre fencer Grant Williams finished first overall in his division.
- Princeton comes into action with a 2-3 record after competing at the Penn Elite Invitational on November 5th.
- Princeton returns with four fencers who finished in the top 25 of their division in the NCAA Championships.
- Penn State returns with 2016's sabre NCAA National Champion Andrew Mackiewicz.
- NJIT comes into action with a modest 7-6 record on the season, but five of those six losses have come against opponents ranked in the top 10.
- NJIT returns all four of its fencers who finished in the top 25 individually at last year's NCAA Championships.
