MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 16, 2010) – In its first competition of the spring, the Vassar College women's golf team fared well, paced by a medalist finish from freshman
Celynne Balatbat who lead the Brewers to a second place finish out of four teams at the Barefoot Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach.
The Brewers finished with 373 points, finishing behind first place SUNY Cortland's 367 while host McDaniel College (377) placed third and Denison University (426) finished fourth.
“They did a great job overall today, especially for their first time out,” said head coach Rhett Myers. “Celynne was obviously fantastic, and everyone worked so hard. What was particularly impressive was how well they played on a very difficult course. It was very cold and windy today and the conditions were really tough, but everyone played really well.”
Balatbat finished first in the field of 21 with a score of 84 while fellow freshman
Nicole Bronson was Vassar's next finisher, tying for fifth with a score of 93. Sophomore
Laurie King also garnered a top-10 finish, placing seventh with a 94. Also competing for Vassar was sophomore
Alex Bello (14th, 102), and freshman
Sanam Khanna (21st, 129).
The Brewers will play against Doane College on Thursday to complete their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach.
