MEDFORD, M.A. - The Vassar College Women's Fencing team recorded five Northeast Fencing Conference victories on Sunday at the NFC #3, hosted by Tufts. The epee squad finished a strong day with a 47-16 record while the foil squad went 41-22 and the sabre squad finished 38-25.
In the opening round against Dartmouth, the Brewers took a 21-6 with epee leading the way with an 8-1 mark. Sophomores
Danielle Golden and
Olivia Barnes each went undefeated at epee while freshman
Aanya Mukherjee picked up two victories. Sophomore
Nicole Ezell posted a 3-0 mark at foil while junior
Hunter Grogan and senior
Sophie Jones each added two wins. Freshman
Abigail Geiger went undefeated at sabre while sophomore
Kira Wheeler won twice and freshman
Vanessa Mark tallied a victory.
Vassar earned another win against UMass at 23-4 as sabre led the way with a undefeated 9-0 mark. Mark, Geiger and senior
Chloe Gjoka each tallied a victory at sabre as the others were won by default. Golden went 3-0 at epee while Barnes and sophomore
Naomi Hirsch each picked up two wins. Grogan went 3-0 at foil with Jones and Ezell each recorded two victories for the Brewers.
The Brewers fell in a tight 14-13 decision to Sacred Heart in the third round. Grogan was 3-0 at foil along with two wins apiece from Jones and Ezell. Golden and Muhkerjee each posted two victories at epee while Barnes added a win. Geiger tallied the only victory at sabre for the Brewers.
Vassar took a 19-8 victory over Boston University in round four with epee going 9-0. Barnes, Hirsch and Golden each tallied two wins apiece at epee while Grogan and Ezell each won twice at foil along with one victory from Ezell. Wheeler went undefeated at sabre for the Brewers with Gjoka and Geiger each recording a win.
VC cruised to a 25-2 in the fifth round against the University of New Hampshire. Golden, Mukherjee and Barnes all went 3-0 at epee while Grogan and Ezell also went undefeated at foil while Jones added two victories. Geiger and Wheeler were 3-0 at sabre along with two victories from Mark.
The Brewers tallied another victory 19-8 against Smith in round six. Wheeler and Geiger each went 3-0 at sabre while Gjoka added a win. Golden, Hirsch and Barnes tallied two wins apiece at epee along with three wins from Grogan, two from Jones and one from Ezell at foil.
Vassar fell in the final round to Wellesley 21-6 as Mukherjee tallied two wins at epee and Barnes added one. Grogan earned the lone win at foil while Geiger and Mark each recorded a win at sabre.
Vassar will return to action at the George Kolombatovich Historical Meet at Columbia on Wednesday, February 15th. The Brewers will take on NYU at 6:30 p.m. and Columbia at 7:45 p.m.
