CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Vassar College Women's Fencing team returned to action at the Northeast Fencing Conference #2 meet. The epee squad led the way with a 26-28 record on the day in conference action.
In the opening round against Tufts, the Brewers suffered a 21-6 defeat. Sophomores
Olivia Barnes and
Addy Xie along with freshman
Sarah Boucher-Rowe each picked up two victories at epee. Vassar fell in round two against Drew 19-8 as sophomore
Nicole Ezell, junior
Hunter Grogan and senior
Sophie Jones each tallied a win at foil. Barnes and Boucher-Rowe each earned a win at epee while rookie
Abigail Geiger took two victories at sabre and sophomore
Kira Wheeler added a victory at sabre.
VC fell in the third round against MIT 19-8 with Ezell winning twice at foil and Grogan also picked up a victory. Barnes and Boucher-Rowe tallied two victories apiece at epee while sophomore
Danielle Golden added a win. The Brewers dropped a 18-9 decision to Brandeis in round four as Boucher-Rowe went undefeated at epee with freshman
Aanya Mukherjee winning twice and Barnes adding a victory. Geiger picked up two wins at sabre as Wheeler also added a victory.
In round five, Vassar lost to Brown 19-8 as Boucher-Rowe and Barnes each won twice at epee with Golden adding a victory. Geiger and freshman
Vanessa Mark each tallied a victory at sabre with Grogan registering the lone win at foil.
In the final round against Boston College, VC dropped a 19-8 with Boucher-Rowe and Barnes each winning twice at epee while sophomore
Naomi Hirsch added a victory. Wheeler earned two victories at sabre and Geiger also secured a win for the Brewers.
Vassar will return to action next weekend at Yale University on Saturday, January 28. The meet is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start.
