Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Montclair State

Red Hawks post 149-123 win over Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – It was an outstanding evening of action as the Vassar College women's and men's swimming & diving teams welcomed Montclair State University to Kresge Pool on Friday night. The Brewers women notched a 180.5-109.5 win, while the Red Hawks men bested Vassar by a 149-123 margin.

The Brewers opened the meet with solid points as the women saw the 200-medley relays take second, third and fourth. Leading the way were rookies Bella Rippon and Abbe Colgan, junior Alejandra Robins and sophomore Maya Luongo took second overall in a time of 1:53.16 – just a fraction off the MSU winning time of 1:53.03.

The men's relay saw the Brewers foursome of rookie Sam Deluca, senior Anthony Cheng and sophomores Ben Glazebnik and Hayden Ehrenfeld record second overall in 1:39.59.

In the women's 1000-freestyle, rookie Addie Wiener was the event winner in 11:14.24, while junior Sarah Quintana was close behind in second with a mark of 11:14.28. The men's race saw senior Robbie Perot take third overall, touching the wall in 10:21.01, while rookie Eli Werner was fourth in 11:03.19.

Rookie Abigail McLaughlin was the winner of the women's 200-freestyle, touching in 2:00.64 while classmate Lilly Masters earned second overall in 2:03.20, followed by senior Abby Whittington who rounded out the top three with a time of 2:03.71. The men's event saw Glazebnik earn second overall in 1:52.33.

In the 100-backstroke, rookie Bella Rippon was the winner in a time of 1:00.88, while classmate Maleigha Vietti was third in 1:03.23. The men's side saw Deluca take third in 57.90. Next up in the women's 100-breaststroke, Colgan was second in 1:10.66, while the men's event saw Cheng earned second overall as well in 1:01.66.

Senior Grace Myers earned the win in the 200-butterfly, touching in a time of 2:15.49, while Robins took second with a mark of 2:16.56. On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Tsukuda was fourth in 2:09.32. Luongo was the winner in the 50-freestyle for the women, posting a time of 25.36, while rookie Calie Demers was third in 25.85. The men's side saw Ehrenfeld take second in 22.02, while junior Lukas Johnson was fourth in 23.48.

In the first diving break, senior Evelyn Boyle won off the 1-meter with 125.35 points, while the men's 1-meter event saw sophomore Jacob Cerone post 112.00 points.

Back in the pool, McLaughlin picked up another victory, this time in the 100-free with a time of 55.85. Wiener was third overall (56.99), while Demers was fourth (57.09) – both picking up key points for the Brewers. The men's event saw Glazebnik take second in 49.38, while Ehrenfeld was third in 50.83.
Quintana posted an event win in the 200-backstroke, touching the wall in 2:14.10, while senior Lillian Lowenthal was third in 2:20.74. The men's race saw Tsukuda finish fourth in 2:13.08, while Werner was fifth in 2:16.65.

Next up in the 200-breaststroke, Colgan was the winner in 2:35.51, while Robins earned third in 2:39.32. The men's side saw Cheng finish second in 2:14.72. Vietti gave the Brewers a 500-free victory for the women, touching in 5:27.31, while Myers and Masters were third (5:31.63) and fourth (5:39.80), respectively. The men's event was won by Perot, who posted a time of 4:56.62, nearly three seconds ahead of second place (4:59.11).

The 100-butterfly saw Whittington tie for second in 1:02.86, while the men's event saw Deluca grab the win in 56.00. Action turned once more back to 1-meter diving as Boyle won with a score of 187.55 points, while Cerone and senior Ben Bragin went first and second with 170.50 and 115.95 points, respectively.
In the 200-individual medley, Rippon picked up the victory in 2:16.02, while Cheng was the men's winner in 2:04.69.

The final event of the evening saw Luongo, Masters, Myers and Whittington combine to win the women's 400-free relay in 3:43.31. The Brewers also took second as Lowenthal, McLaughlin, Wiener and Quintana had a mark of 3:46.69. In the men's event, Johnson, Glazebnik, Perot and Ehrenfeld recorded a winning time of 3:19.41, while the foursome of rookie Croix Horsley, Werner, Deluca and junior Rory Stumpf were second in 3:32.07.

Vassar returns to the pool next Saturday (Nov. 5) as it welcomes Skidmore College to Kresge Pool for a 1pm dual meet.
