POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – It was an outstanding effort in the water for the Vassar men's and women's swimming & diving teams, who posted dual meet wins against Pace University at Kresge Pool on Friday evening. The Vassar men won by a 180-110 margin, while the Brewers women were 163-123 winners over the Setters.
Action kicked-off in the 400-yard medley relay as the Vassar foursome of senior Jesse Ecklund, junior Lillian Lowenthal, sophomore Alejandra Robins and rookie Maya Luongo posted a winning time of 4:06.07. In the men's event, junior
Nick D'Arrigo, seniors
Nikolas Pham and
Max White and rookie
Ben Glazebnik combined for a win with a mark of 3:38.20.
The men's 1000-yard freestyle saw sophomore
Lukas Johnson take second overall with a time of 11:10.93. In the women's 200-yard freestyle, Ecklund was the victor, touching the wall with a time of 2:00.69. It marked a 1-2-3 finish for the Brewers as junior Grace Myers was second in 2:02.56, followed by sophomore Alanna Muello in third in 2:04.24.
The men's 200-free was another 1-2-3 punch as White won in a time of 1:49.75, followed by junior
Jason Albaum in second in 1:52.85 and sophomore
Rory Stumpf taking third in 1:53.31. In the women's 50-backstroke, sophomore Sarah Quintana was the winner with a time of 28.52, while the men's event was won by D'Arrigo, who touched the wall in a time of 25.86.
Next up was the women's 50-breaststroke, which saw Lowenthal take second in 33.12, while the men's side saw junior
Robbie Perot earn runner-up as well, posting a time of 29.29. The 100-butterfly was up next as Robins was the winner on the women's side in 1:01.10. She was followed by Luongo in second with a time of 1:01.77. The men's event was another 1-2 as Glazebnik won in 53.85, while rookie
Tyler Tsukuda was second in 57.47.
The women's 50-free was won by junior Abby Whittington on the women's side as she touched in 25.75. Myers was runner-up in the event in 26.12. On the men's side, rookie
Hayden Ehrenfeld was the victor in 22.37, while Pham was second in 22.61.
A break in the action shifted the focus onto diving as the women took to the 1-meter board. Junior Evelyn Boyle earned second overall with a score of 186.80 points. On the men's side off the 3-meter, senior
Sam Fujikawa was fifth with 164.15 points, while rookie
Jacob Cerone took sixth with 138.35 points. Junior
Ben Bragin rounded out the efforts in seventh with 127.20 points.
Back in the pool, Myers took second overall in the 100-free in 56.84, while the men's event was won by Glazebnik as he touched the wall for the win in 48.32. Ecklund then picked up the victory in the 100-back, outpacing the competitors with a winning time of 1:00.50. The men's event was won by D'Arrigo as he recorded a time of 55.41. In the women's 100-breast, senior Abby Jenkins took third in 1:17.08, while the men's event was won by Pham in 1:02.03.
The women's 500-free saw Quintana earn the win in 5:27.16, while the men's event was won by Perot with a mark of 4:47.19. The 50-fly was up next as Lowenthal won the women's side in 27.19, while White was the winner on the men's in 24.09, just out-touching Glazebnik – who took second in 24.43.
Back on the boards, the men took to the 1-meter as Fujikawa was fifth with 173.80 points. Cerone was sixth overall with 160.65 points, while Bragin earned seventh with 115.65 points.
Lowenthal earned the victory in the return to the pool, picking up the win in the 200-IM with a time of 2:16.97. The men's side was won by White, who posted a time of 2:03.71.
The final event of the evening saw a victory on the women's side as the foursome of Ecklund, Luongo, Muello and Myers combined for a win in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:41.54. The men's event was won by Li, Johnson, Ehrenfeld and Pham, who posted a combined 1:30.25.
Vassar returns to the pool tomorrow when it heads to Schenectady for a 1pm dual meet against the Dutchmen/Dutchwomen of Union College.
