POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was the 2022 opener for the Vassar men's and women's swimming & diving teams as they hosted Connecticut College in dual meet action at Kresge Pool. The Vassar men shouldered a 203-92 loss, while the Brewers women fell by a 220-61 margin.
Action got underway in the 200-medley relay, which saw the women's foursome of sophomores
Sarah Quintana and
Alejandra Robins, along with juniors
Lillian Lowenthal and
Sophie Forbes take third overall with a time of 1:53.58. The Brewers men placed second in the relay, touching the wall with a mark of 1:39.29. That group consisted of junior Nick D'Arrigo, seniors Nikolas Pham and Max White and rookie Ben Glazebnik.
In the women's 1,000-freestyle, senior
Abby Jenkins paced her way to fourth overall with a time of 12:47.03, while on the men's side, sophomore Lukas Johnson was fourth as well, posting a time of 11:28.69. Next up in the women's 200-free, junior
Grace Myers earned third with a time of 2:03.09, while rookie
Maya Luongo was fifth (2:03.83) and sophomore
Alanna Muello was sixth (2:04.64). The men's event saw junior Robbie Perot take second overall, just shy of first with a mark of 1:45.64, while sophomore Rory Stumpf was fifth (1:55.65). In the women's 100-back, Quintana powered her way to second overall in a time of 1:00.50, while the men's side saw D'Arrigo and senior Brandon Li post third (56.33) and fourth (57.59), respectively.
The women's 100-breaststroke was next as sophomore
Szofia Lewis took fourth in 1:16.83. The men's event saw sophomore Hanlin Wang earn runner-up in a mark of 1:03.99, while rookie Hayden Ehrenfeld was third in 1:04.27. In the women's 200-butterfly, Lowenthal paced the Brewers in third (2:18.71), while Robins (2:18.83) and sophomore
Karlie Porter (2:22.75) were fourth and fifth, respectively. On the men's side, White was fourth in 2:03.97, followed by rookie Tyler Tsukuda and junior Jason Albaum in fifth (2:09.25) and sixth (2:09.27).
The women's 50-free saw Forbes and rookie
Jordan Marlow go third (26.27) and fourth (26.75), respectively, while on the men's side, Glazebnik earned the victory with a blazing time of 21.90.
A break in the swimming action shifted the focus to the diving events as junior
Evelyn Boyle took second on the 1-meter board with a score of 159.85 points. On the men's 3-meter, senior Sam Fujikawa was second overall with 178.20 points, while rookie Jacob Cerone was fourth with 158.65 points.
Back in the pool, Muello took fourth overall in the 100-free in a time of 57.66, while on the men's side, Glazebnik was the victor once again with a time of 47.72. In the women's 200-back, Quintana paced her way to second overall in a time of 2:11.28, while the men's side saw D'Arrigo also take second with a mark of 2:02.33. The women's 200-breast saw Lewis and Jenkins post fourth (2:52.70) and fifth (2:53.38), while in the men's event, Hanlin Wang was second (2:18.79), while Stumpf and Johnson earned fifth (2:28.15) and sixth (2:32.57), respectively.
In the women's 500-free, Myers swam to fourth in 5:32.65, while the men's side saw Perot take second overall, just a fraction out of first with a time of 4:47.57. The Brewers then earned key points in the 100-fly as Lowenthal, Robins and Luongo went second (1:01.43), third (1:01.72) and fourth (1:02.12), respectively, while the men's side saw White take second (53.53). Pham and Albaum were fifth (55.99) and sixth (58.79), respectively.
Another break in the action saw the men's 1-meter event as Fujikawa took second with 193.00 points, followed by Cerone in third with 169.90 points.
Lowenthal paced the women out of the break in the 200-individual medley, earning second overall in 2:17.67, while the men's side saw Perot take second as well with a time of 2:01.18.
The final events of the meet saw Vassar's relay of Myers, Luongo, Quintana and Muello take third in the women's 400-free relay with a time of 3:44.64. On the men's side, the foursome of White, Ehrenfeld, Pham and Glazebnik finished a fraction out of first with a time of 3:15.26.
Vassar's men's and women's squads return to action on Friday at Kresge Pool when they welcome Pace University at 6pm. No spectators will be allowed for Friday's meet, but fans can watch live via the webcast by clicking
