EWING, NJ – The Vassar College men's tennis team took to the court on Saturday, opening up action at the two-day TCNJ Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey at their tennis complex. It was a non-team scoring event for the Brewers, who competed in singles and doubles competition to open action.
In singles, sophomore
Benjamin Almquist shouldered a 6-0, 0-6, 8-10 defeat to Stevens' Marc Feliu. Classmate
Arun Guruswamy squared-off against Stevens Vivek Harinarayan, falling by a 6-3, 6-1 margin, while Stevens Keegan Morris posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vassar sophomore
Jay Wong.
Rookie
James Balon suffered a tough 6-4, 6-4 loss to Matt Luzzi, while
Nihal Kothari fell 6-4, 6-3 to Stevens Troy Zhang. Senior
Mihajlo Ivanovic fell 6-2, 7-5 to Stevens; Aashi Kulakarni, while classmate
William Hwang shouldered a tough 6-1, 4-6, 14-16 defeat to Andrew He.
In doubles action, senior
Mathew Yee and Wong partnered for an 8-7, 7-5 victory over Stevens' Feliu and Morris, while Almquist and rookie
Arnav Agostinho secured an 8-4 win over Luzzi and Zhang.
Guruswamy and Ivanovic fell by an 8-6 margin to Kulakarni and Sebastian Wroe of Stevens, while He and Olof Persson bested Balon and Hwang, 8-1.
Action at the TCNJ Invite continues on Sunday beginning at 9am.
