Box Score TAMPA, FL – Despite a seven goal second half rally, the Vassar men's lacrosse team was unable to make a late comeback, falling to Babson 13-8 on Tuesday evening. Junior
Michael Mullen (Dresher, PA) netted a career-high five goals, while three other Brewers notched goals.
With the loss, Vassar slips to 2-4, while the Beavers move to 2-4.
Babson jumped out a 4-0 lead after the first quarter with two goals from Thomas Jung. Early in the second, Mullen scored to get Vassar on the board, but the Beavers went on another 3-0 run to go into halftime up 7-1.
Babson carried over into the third quarter, scoring a quick goal at 13:53. With the Beavers beginning to pull away, senior
Dekker Stebel (San Diego, CA) picked up
Pat Gibbons (Garden City, NY) for the score. Then at 9:55, Mullen launched the shot in to cut the lead to 9-3. After a Babson score, Vassar closed the third on a 2-0 run behind goals from
Kyle Cherry (Manhasset, NY) and
Nick Diamond (Boca Raton, FL).
Mullen closed the fourth with three-straight goals from 10:50 to 4:03 to lessen the gap to 11-8. Unfortunately, Babson prevented any late rally, scoring twice more in the final two minutes.
Matthew Lowery (Bel Air, MD) went 16-of-21 on faceoffs and grabbed a team-high eight groundballs.
Matt Boyd (Essex Fells, NJ) started in goal and had 15 saves.
Vassar returns to action on March 23 to face RIT in Rochester. Game starts at 1 p.m.
