Brewers Drop Senior Day Heartbreaker To #18/18 Ithaca

Vassar honors 15 seniors prior to face-off

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team closed out the home schedule Saturday afternoon with a tough 12-11 loss to #18/18 Ithaca on Senior Day. Prior to face-off the Brewers honored 14 uniformed players and assistant coach Weston Keenan on Senior Day.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 6-8 overall on the season and 1-5 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers improve to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

How It Happened
  • Tightly contested throughout, Ithaca carried a 4-1 lead into the second frame following four straight goals.
  • Eads opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game before the Bombers closed the frame with four straight goals, including two from Brendan Occhino.
  • Both teams scored three goals in the second frame with Vassar getting as close as two goals on a Landon Silverstein (Deer Park, NY) marker at the 9:38 mark of the second period.
  • The Bombers pushed their lead back to four goals with 4:22 left before halftime ahead Travis Heller (Lafayette, NJ) beating the second quarter horn with his 22nd goal of the season to bring Vassar to within 7-4 at the break.
  • Ithaca held a 21-11 advantage in shots at the intermission with face-offs even at 6-6.
  • Vassar came out of halftime and outscored Ithaca 4-3 in the third frame.
  • The Brewers scored the first four goals of the frame, including a Morton unassisted goal at the 5:16 mark of the period that pushed the Brewers in front 8-7.
  • The Bombers came back with the final three goals of the quarter, including two goals from Will Kleine, to grab back a 10-8 lead with 15 minutes left to play.
  • The two sides went back-and-forth in the final period with Vassar ripping off three straight goals to open an 11-10 advantage with 7:33 left to play.
  • McGuire got Vassar even at the 9:57 mark before Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) pushed the Brewers in front with 7:33 left in regulation.
  • Trailing by a goal, Ithaca evened the score on Danny Loss' sixth goal of the season with 6:35 left in the contest.
  • With the game tied and under a minute remaining, Kleine potted his fifth goal of the game with 33 seconds left, proving to be the deciding tally.
  • Vassar outshot Ithaca 22-14 after halftime with face-offs even at 7-7.
 
For The Brewers
  • Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) rounded out the game with a goal and two assists and led the Brewers with 10 shots.
  • Tinker tallied twice and added a helper.
  • Eads and John Malone (Devon, PA) each scored twice with Malone collecting two groundballs and Eads securing three groundballs.
  • Bader finished with two caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs.
  • Tim Morin (Stow, MA) forced two turnovers and collected four groundballs.
  • Danny Holt (Rochester, MI) won 10 face-offs and led the team with seven groundballs.
  • Silverstein won three face-offs, scored a goal and finished with two groundballs.
  • Jess Geoghagan (Mercer Island, WA) closed the day with eight saves in goal.
 
For The Bombers
  • Kleine scored five times and finished with seven points.
  • Occhino closed the win with four markers and five groundballs.
  • Loss posted two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Ethan Adrid and Sam Baker each assisted on two goals.
  • Justin Polhemus caused three turnovers and picked up four groundballs.
  • Liam Alberti won 13 face-offs and secured nine groundballs.
  • Andrew Minard earned the win in goal with 12 saves.
