NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior
Rose Hulsey-Vincent (Woodinville, WA) and freshman
Zoe Tolbert (Olympia, WA) were named EWFC Fencers of the Year in the Vassar women's fencing team's third-place finish at Sunday's Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Championships. Johns Hopkins placed first and Stevens was second. The Brewers' epee squad placed first for the first-time ever after going undefeated in seven rounds.

Freshmen
Chloe Chinnadurai (Denville, NJ) and
Rosie Parker (Portland, OR) picked up first team all-stars honors in epee, while seniors
Sophie Blumenstock (St. Paul, MN) and
Mirit Rutishauser (New York, NY) were second team all-stars in foil. Vassar also had the coaching staff as the year.

The Brewers opened against Drew. Vassar was swept 9-0 in sabre, but 7-2 showings from foil and epee allowed the narrow 14-13 Brewers win. Tolbert led the foil team, going 3-0 while Blumenstock and Rutishauser tallied the 2-1 wins. Hulsey-Vincent set the tone early, starting her day with a 3-0 sweep. Chinnadurai and Parker both went 2-1.

Vassar fell to eventual champion Johns Hopkins in the second round 18-9. Sabre dropped the 8-1 decision and foil fell 6-3. Epee edged the Blue Jays 5-4. Tolbert was able to go 2-1 in foil against Johns Hopkins, while epee members Parker and Hulsey-Vincent went 2-1.

The Brewers handled Hunter in the third round, going 24-3. Foil swept 9-0, epee rolled 8-1 and sabre won 7-2. The trio of Rutishauser, Tolbert and Blumenstock all recorded the 3-0 victories at foil, while both Hulsey-Vincent and
Shannon Chen (Westford, MA) went undefeated in epee. Sabre's
Nicoletta Dinelli (Talent, OR) went 2-0, while
Rose Parker (Westfield, NJ) and
Jenna Hutchinson (Omaha, NE) tacked on a win each.

Haverford was bested 18-9 in the fourth. Against Haverford, Vassar won foil and epee 7-2, but fell 5-4 in sabre.
Tori Lubin (Westport, CT) found some action at foil, going 2-1, while Rutishauser and Tolbert added two wins. Hulsey-Vincent swept again with Parker and Chinnadurai were 2-1. While the sabre squad fell, Parker picked up a 3-0 sweep.

There was no struggle against Yeshiva in the fifth. Foil went 9-0 and epee was 7-2. Sabre was the closest at 6-3. The Brewers then rolled past CCNY 24-3 in the sixth round. Foil recorded its second-straight 9-0 sweep and epee also was 9-0. Sabre went 6-3 against CCNY.

The final round was not in Vassar's favor, with Stevens taking the 17-10 victory. Epee remained undefeated, edging out the Ducks 5-4 behind 2-1 records from Hulsey-Vincent and Parker. Chinnadurai had a win that proved to be the deciding factor. Sabre struggled in the 8-1 loss and foil was tripped up 5-4.

Hulsey-Vincent led the Brewers, finishing at 17-2, while Tolbert was 15-3 to achieve their fencer of the year accolades. Chinnadurai went 12-6 and Parker was 13-5. Blumenstock recorded a 14-5 record and Rutihauser was 14-5.
Vassar travels to Wellesley, MA next for the NEIFC Championships on March 2. Â
