Brewers Tripped Up By NYU and Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Vassar women's fencing squad fell in two matches on Wednesday evening. The Brewers first were bested 17-10 by NYU and then dropped a 23-4 decision to Columbia.
 
Against NYU, Vassar won 5-4 in foil, but fell 8-1 in sabre and 5-4 in epee. In the foil victory, both Zoe Tolbert (Olympia, WA) and Tori Lubin (Westport, CT) tallied 2-1 victories, while Sophie Blumenstock (St. Paul, MN) had the decided 5-4 win in the third round. Chloe Chinnadurai (Denville, NJ) picked up two wins to lead the epee squad.
 
The host Lions flexed their muscle, sweeping the Brewers 9-0 in sabre and winning 7-2 in both foil and epee. Tolbert and Lubin tacked on the two foil wins, and Shannon Chen (Westford, MA) and Chinnadurai picked up the epee victories.
 
Vassar returns to action this Sunday for the EWFC Championships in New York.
