New York, N.Y. – The Vassar men's fencing team dropped a pair of matches to NYU and Columbia on Wednesday evening at Columbia University. The Brewers fell 20-7 in the opener against NYU, and then were edged by the Lions 15-12.

NYU took all three fields versus Vassar, winning sabre 7-2, foil 8-1 and epee 5-4.
Max Deak (San Diego, CA) and
Graeme Mills (Boston, MA) tallied the two sabre victories, while
Michael Jaklitsch (Saint James, NY) led the epee squad at 2-1.

The Brewers faced closer competition against host Columbia and downed the Lions 5-4 in epee. Columbia took sabre 5-4 and foil 6-3. Mills led the sabre squad with a 2-1 record and
Chris Gaehde (Brookine, MA) went 2-1 in foil. Jakllitsch pulled off another 2-1 showing at epee and
Nishay Bhatnagar (Livingston, NJ),
Abram Gregory (North Smithfield, RI) and
Alden Pierson Smela (Minneapolis, MN) tacked on a win each for the bout victory.

Vassar has a slight break before traveling to Wellesley, MA for the NEIFC Championships on March 2.
