POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's fencing nearly claimed their second consecutive Matt Lampell Invite title, but were tripped up 13-14 by Drew in the championship match. As a team, the Brewers finished the day at 5-1 on Sunday at the Walker Field House.

Vassar opened pool play going 4-0 against Drew (17-10), West Point (16-11), Marist (27-0) and Yeshiva (24-3). Then in the championship bracket, Vassar downed Yeshiva (26-1) before falling to Drew.

The Brewers featured a strong foil squad that went 47-7. Vassar's epee had a successful day at 43-11, while the sabre team posted a 33-21 record.

Foil was highlighted by sophomore
Zoe Tolbert (Olympia, WA), freshman
Jenna Waibel (Pompton Lakes, NJ), and sophomore
Tori Lubin (Westport, CT). Tolbert recorded three sweeps and led the foil squad at 11-2. Waibel found success with three sweeps as well, going 10-3. Lubin posted nine victories. Freshman
Rose Lynch (Garden City, NY) fought in one bout, going 2-0.

Rosie Parker (Portland, OR) and
Chloe Chinnadurai (Denville, NJ) and junior
Shannon Chen (Westford, MA) were the top-three Vassar epee fencers. Parker picked up the most wins going 16-1 with four sweeps. Chinnadurai tallied a 14-4 record and Chen earned nine victories. Freshman
Carter Mucha (Brookline, MA) found herself in three bouts and was undefeated at 4-0.

Nicoletta Dinelli (Talent, OR),
Elise Poniatowski (West Roxbury, MA), and
Barsha Saha (Elmhurst, NY) led the sabre field. Dinelli had the most victories at 7-5, while Poniatowski had six wins. Saha recorded two wins on the day.
