WALTHAM, MA (October 26, 2019) - It was a solid day of action for the Vassar women's and men's swimming & diving teams, who took to the water on Saturday at Brandeis University. The Brewers women recorded a 155-115 victory, while the VC men were edged by a 141-131 margin. Vassar is now 2-0 on the women's side and 1-1 on the men's in dual meet action.
The day's events opened with the 200-yard medley relay with the VC women taking second and third. The Brewers second-place foursome of Jesse Ecklund, Stephanie Kaplan, Abby Whittington and Violet Witchel recorded a time of 1:56.06 - just a fraction off the victory time by Brandeis of 1:56.05. VC's third-place team of Rhea Randhawa, Lillian Lowenthal, Brynn Lautenbacher and Sophie Forbes were just as close, touching the wall with a time of 1:56.08.
On the men's side in the 200-medley,
Nick D'Arrigo,
Anthony Cheng,
Jake Mier and
Brandon Li powered their way to third overall with a time of 1:44.54. The Brewers foursome of
Duncan Webber,
Jason Albaum, Matthew Norris and
Leroy Wang earned fourth with a mark of 1:49.91.
The 1,000-yard freestyle was won by Angharad Healey, who touched the wall in a time of 11:27.52, while on the men's side,
Robbie Perot earned the win, posting a time of 10:06.80. Ecklund then went on to earn the win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.59, while Grace Myers was second overall, touching just behind with a mark of 2:00.82.
In the men's 200-free,
Max White was second with a time of 1:51.76, while Li took third with a time of 1:55.92. The 100-yard backstroke saw Randhawa the victor with a time of 1:02.22, while in the men's event, D'Arrigo was third with a time of 58.13.
Kaplan went on to finish second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.37, while the men saw Pham and Cheng take second and third with times of 1:03.50 and 1:03.84, respectively. Lowenthal powered her way to second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.07, while the men's side saw Mier the winner with a time of 2:01.48.
Lautenbacher took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.74, while in the men's event,
Matthew Imiolek was third with a time of 23.25, while White earned fourth with a time of 23.31.Â
In the men's 1-meter diving,
Laurence Barr-Forget had the top score with a mark of 159.70 points, while Evelyn Boyle - the reigning Liberty League Diver of the Week - recorded the top mark on the women's side in the 1-mtr.
Back to swimming action, Myers took the victory in the 100-free with a time of 55.12, while the men's side had Perot taking third (50.97) and Pham earning fourth (52.31).
Ecklund earned her second individual victory of the day in the 200-backstroke as the Brewers dominated the top three. Ecklund notched a time of 2:10.76, while Randhawa was second with a time of 2:16.29 and Healey earned thrid, touching the wall in 2:18.57. D'Arrigo was third in the men's event with a time of 2:05.79.
Lowenthal was the victor in the 200-breast with a mark of 2:34.18, followed by Kaplan in third with a time of 2:42.04. Cheng was third in the 200-breast for the men with a time of 2:20.92, while Albaum took fourth (2:36.19).
The 500-yard freestyle saw Kendall Hayes take second overall with a time of 5:43.19, while in the men's Perot took the victory with a mark of 4:55.30. White was second with a mark of 5:03.06. Lautenbacher was the winner in the 100-butterfly, posting a time of 1:01.68, while Myers was second with a time of 1:02.23. On the men's side,
Harrison Taylor finished third with a time of 57.02, while Imiolek and
Jordan Kalina were fourth (58.68) and fifth (58.80), respectively.
Lowenthal and Randhawa went 1-2 in the 200-yard individual medley with times of 2:15.09 and 2:19.44, while on the men's side, Mier, Cheng and Matthew Norris were 1-2-3 with marks of 2:05.86, 2:13.67 and 2:20.60.
In the final event of the day, the 400-free relay, the foursome of Myers, Lautenbacher, Whittington and Ecklund won with a time of 3:44.23. On the men's side, Perot, Imiolek, Pham and White combined for a time of 3:25.76.
Both squads return to action next Saturday when they travel to Skidmore for a 1pm dual meet against the Thoroughbreds.
