Vassar Baseball Game Notes - Moravian, Lehman

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 20, 2018) – The Vassar College baseball team has an exciting weekend of doubleheaders, traveling to Bethlehem, PA on Saturday, April 21, to take on Moravian College and hosting Lehman College on Saturday, April 22 on the beautiful Prentiss Baseball Field.

Last Time Out: Sophomore Evan Trausch posted two solo homers and two runs batted in, leading the Brewers to a 14-5 win in game two of their doubleheader against Liberty League opponent University of Rochester. Freshman Logan Willans pitched 6 innings for the Brewers and helped them hold off Rochester to only five runs after the tough 20-1 loss in the first game of the doubleheader.
 
A Look At The Brewers (12-11, 8-6 Liberty)
  • Vassar has been a standout in the field, with sophomore Evan Trausch ranking first in the Liberty League in fielding percentage and senior Bobby Kinne ranking third in the Liberty League in the same category.
  • Senior Bobby Kinne has been a huge impact player for the Brewers this season, with a .386 batting average, 13 runs so far, and 23 runs batted in, which is by far the most on the team.
  • Juniors Bryan Rubin and Jake Doyle have also been big contributors for the Brewers, with Doyle earning 14 runs and Rubin earning 13 runs. Rubin is also ranked third on the team in batting with an average of .365.
  • Sophomore Evan Trausch is the leading fielder this season, with 178 putouts and 10 assists, boasting a 1.000% fielding average with no errors thus far.
  • Freshman Logan Willans leads the Brewers in ERA with a 1.61 average in a total of 22.1 innings played and is ranked 10th in the league in ERA averages.
  • Sophomore Max Spencer has been another contributor on the pitching mound, with a low ERA of 2.91 in 34 innings played, bringing in 3 of the 12 wins the Brewers have earned so far this season.
  • Freshman Tanner Blough is hitting .500 with runners in scoring position, posting 10 hits in 20 at bats for nine RBI.
  • Senior Bobby Kinne has posted four hits in five at-bats this season with the bases loaded, driving in 14 RBI in those situations.
 A Look At The Greyhounds (16-14, 9-6 Landmark):
  • Moravian has had a strong year thus far, ranking second in their league with nine wins and six losses.
  • Sophomore Evan Kulig ranks first in the Landmark conference in hitting, with 23 hits, 10 runs, and 15 runs batted in.
  • Freshman Ian Csencsits has been an additional hitting leader for the Greyhounds, with 21 hits, 16 runs, and 8 RBI's in his first season at Moravian.
  • Sophomore Rhett Jacoby leads the team in pitching, posting a 2.57 ERA in 35 innings played, while also only allowing 13 runs this season.
  • Sophomore Austin Markowski leads the Greyhounds in fielding, with a 1.000 fielding percent and zero errors in 15 games played. Sophomore Mike Mittl has also had a large impact in Moravian fielding, with a 1.000 fielding percent and 33 putouts.
  • Moravian has a depth pitching roster, with three pitchers having played in over 25 innings, leading their league in innings played.
 A Look At The Lightning (14-14, 4-4 CUNY):
  • Lehman ranks third in their league, with four wins and four losses this season. They are also on a three-game winning streak and will be looking to continue that against the Brewers.
  • Juniors David Rodriguez and Mark Vargas lead the Lightning in batting, each with an average over .400. Rodriguez posts a .420 average and Vargas a .410 average, ranking second and third in their league for batting average.
  • Four pitchers for Lehman have played more than 35 innings, showing depth on the pitching mound.
  • Sophomore Rich Frommelt has been the leading pitchers in ERA, posting a 2.44 average in 44.1 innings. Senior Emmanuel Velasquez has also been a standout pitcher for the Greyhounds, posting a 5.40 ERA in 53.1 innings played.
  • Four fielders for the Greyhounds have a fielding percent of 1.000 and zero errors throughout the season.
  • Junior Mark Vargas has had 203 putouts with a fielding percent of .991, making him another fielder to be aware of when at bat for the Brewers.
Against Moravian and Lehman All-Time: The upcoming weekend of exciting doubleheaders will be the first time the Brewers have gone against both Moravian and Lehman College. The Brewers will be looking to start off the series strong by earnings wins against both teams.

Next Time Out: The Brewers will host Mount Saint Vincent College on Tuesday, April 24 and New Paltz on Wednesday, April 25 on the Prentiss Baseball Field in two non-conference match-ups.
