POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2018) – The Vassar College men's volleyball team will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships this Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21. The Brewers will take on the winner of the Kean University and St. Joseph's College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday.

Last Time Out: The Vassar men's volleyball team advanced to the UVC Championship Final for the first time in history after a victory over fellow Mid-Hudson rival, The Hawks of Suny New Paltz. The Brewers fell in the final to the top-seeded Ducks of Stevens despite a solid performance.

A Look At The Brewers (22-7, 8-1 UVC):
- The Brewers received a bye in the opening round and are looking to advance farther then their appearance in the 2017 NCAA DIII Championship.
- Senior Matthew Knigge is second in the nation for kills per set in all of Division III men's volleyball with an average of 4.29 kills per set.
- Zechariah Lee runs the Brewers offense effectively and currently sits sixth in the nation for assists per set, averaging 10.10.
- Strong serving from the baseline continues to be a big part of the Brewers game as Senior Zechariah Lee (0.48) and First-year Jefferson Waters (0.41) lead the team in service aces per set.
- Defensively, Garth Verdeflor has 208 saves on the season thus far, averaging 2.10 digs per set.
- Matthew Knigge is second in the nation for blocks per set, averaging 1.318 per set. Following close behind him is fellow teammate, Ryan Duchemin, with an average of 0.90 per set.
A Look At The Golden Eagles (23-8, 10-0 Skyline):
- The Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College remain undefeated in the Skyline Conference, winning the conference final last Saturday.
- Sophomore Paul Curaro leads the team in total kills (265) with an average of 3.08 kills per set. Following closely behind him is Sophomore Will Flohr, averaging 2.60 kills per set.
- Defensively, Danny McNamara leads the team averaging 2.55 digs per set with Will Flohr following behind with with an average of 2.21 digs per set. Both players have totaled 199 digs this season.
- Kyle Biggers, has proven to be the biggest block for the Golden Eagles, with 60 total blocks, averaging 0.62 blocks per set.
A Look At The Cougars (33-2, 12-1 CVC)
- Kean University comes off a four-set victory securing a CVC Conference Championship last Saturday.
- Steven Zarzycki leads the team in kills with 251 this season, averaging 2.76 kills per set. Fellow teammate Jared Wagner leads the team in hitting percentage with .457 on the season.
- Ian Capp leads the team in assists, averaging 8.92 assists per set. Capp also dominates from the service line and sits second in all of Division III with an average of 0.73 aces per set.
- The Cougars have a strong defense with three players accumulating more than 100 digs this season: Ian Capp (179), Nick Breslin (174), and Steve Schrank (117).
