Vassar Men's Fencing Notes - Johns Hopkins

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 16, 2018)- The Brewers will be competing this Saturday against Johns Hopkins University. The Brewers will be looking to bounce after picking up two losses in the Historical Meet at Columbia.

Last Time Out: The Brewers picked up two losses at the prestigious Historical Meet at Columbia University. The Brewers were knocked off by the No. 4 ranked Lions 9-18 and saw the same result against the No. 10 ranked Violets of NYU.  
 
A Look at the Brewers (24-15):
  • The men's sabre squad leads the way with 224 victories overall, paced by Evin Heintz who has a 76-19 record.
  • Heintz is joined by senior Eli Polston who has 58 wins on the season.
  • The men's foil squad has put in a number of good performances, holding a squad total of 186 wins. They're led by Tom Racek with 63 wins.
  • Racek is joined by Noe Berger and Adlai Brandt-Ogma who have 47 and 50 wins respectively.
  • Noe Berger is coming off of a strong performance in the Historical Meet in which he picked up two of the foil squads three bout victories.
  • The Brewers have a squad total 200 victories in the epee, led by Jonathan Alperstein (52-28) and Michael Jaklitsch (55-33).
  • Daniel Swerzenski has also been strong on the season with 47 wins in the epee.
 
A Look at the Blue Jays (11-7):
  • The epee squad leads the way for the Blue Jays with a 218-108 record. They're led by sophomore Tiger Gao whose record currently stands at 45-12.
  • The Blue Jays are coming off of 5 wins at their home tournament the Blue Jay Invitational.
  • The Blue Jay foil squad holds a 127-125 record, with all six of them having between 20 and 27 victories.
  • Sophomore Adam Katwan narrowly leads the epee with 27 victories total.
  • The sabre team holds a 133-122 record, paced by senior Sandy Vingoe who holds a 44-27 record.
 
Up Next: The Brewers will head to South Hadley, MA on Saturday, February 24th to compete in the NEIFC Championships.
