POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's team competed for the second time this fall season at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday. In its first dual matches of the season, the Crimson captured a 7-0 record after facing competitors from Haverford, Lafayette, Drew, Long Island-Post, Wagner, The City College of New York and Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Brewers opened against Haverford and while going down 4-5 in the sabre and epee, the foil went 9-0 to give Vassar the 17-10 win. The squad then cruised past their next two opponents. First downing Lafayette, 19-8, and then outlasting LIU, 21-6. Drew kept the contest close in the fourth round, but the Brewers edged them out 15-12. Vassar sailed past Wagner and CCNY with scores of 24-3, and wrapped up action against FDU with a 19-8 victory.
The foil squad performed exceptionally well, amassing 58 wins while going undefeated against four teams. Senior
Sophie Blumenstock had a stellar day, going 18-0 in six rounds.
Mirit Rutishauser also performed well with a 19-3 mark. At epee,
Rose Hulsey-Vincent led the team going 17-4, while sophomore
Rose Parker had 14 wins in sabre.
