Baseball Drops Liberty League Contest To RIT Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY (April 8, 2017) – The host Tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology posted four runs in the first and third innings to pull away, earning a 13-3 win over the Vassar College baseball team in Liberty League play from Tiger Stadium in Rochester, NY.

The Brewers (5-10, 0-3 Liberty) jumped on RIT starter Brian Reed early in the ballgame, as VC posted two runs in the top of the first. Freshman Matt Martino singled in a run to make the score 1-0, and fellow newcomer Daniel Bonfiglio also scored a run with a RBI knock up the middle.

In the bottom half though, RIT (8-6, 4-1 Liberty) wasted no time getting the runs back, plating four runs including three on a bases clearing double from Phil Sammon. The hosts scored four more times in the third inning, capped by a RBI single from Navada Waterman to make the score 8-2. RIT tacked on two more in the fifth on a two-run homer by Mike Myers.

Vassar got a run back in the top of the sixth innings, as freshman Robert Pinataro connected on his first career homerun to right center field to make the score 10-3, but VC would get no closer as the Brewers dropped the first of the three-game set with the Tigers.
