CHINO HILLS, CA (March 15, 2017) – The Vassar College women's golf team started its spring season Wednesday afternoon, taking on Whittier College in a dual match in action from Los Serranos South Golf Course in Chino Hills, California.
The Brewers, who have been in Southern California enjoying the weather and training over the last few days competed for the first time since the end of October, and shot well on a long course that featured a ton of elevation change over the Par 74, 6082-yard track. Vassar was in the match with the Poets, but ended falling by just two strokes, 346-348.
Vassar College freshman
Qiwen Tan was the leader for the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon, as she shot a seven-over 81 for second place. Senior
Emily Prince continued to have a strong breakout season for the Brewers, as she was fifth overall with an 88, while junior
Annie Hsu followed by just one stroke with an 89.
Sophomore
Evon Shay fired a 16-over 90, and freshman
Andrea Han was 17-over with a score of 91. VC bunched well with their 2-3-4 finishers, but Kajal Vitha and her 80 along with the 87 from Ciara Clark for the Poets provided enough cushion for the win.
"Tough match but a great start to the spring season," said associate head coach
Anna Ausanio. "Some good results from the players and some very good shots that we can build off of for the upcoming season. It has been a good training trip and we have worked hard."
Vassar will have a few weeks off before hosting the Vassar College Invitational Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9 at Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie, NY.
