POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 4, 2017) – The Vassar College men's fencing team will be looking to rebound in this upcoming match after losing four out of their five matches during the first day of the Northeast Fencing Conference. While only falling to Boston College, Brown University, Brandeis, MIT by a combined 20 bouts over four matches, the Brewers did have a decisive victory over Tufts University with a score of 21-6. The Brewers will be looking to carry the momentum from their Tufts match to Saturday.

Last Time Out: The Brewers traveled to Providence, RI to compete in the first day of Northeast Fencing Conference action, falling to Brandeis University, Boston College, Brown University, and MIT, while knocking off Tufts University. For the day, Racek and Polston led the Brewers as each posted 11-4 records.
A Look At The Brewers (23-8):
- The Brewers will be competing for the third time since the end of Winter Break, and will continue to fence the rest of their schedule on the road.
- Junior Jonathan Alperstein has been strong this season for the Brewers, as he has a squad best 59 wins this year, including posting seven last weekend at Brown.
- The foil team has continued to be the deepest and best squad for Vassar, posting 194 total bout wins while three fencers have 50 or more victories.
- Junior Tom Racek was 11-4 last weekend, and now has a squad-best 60 victories for the season, only dropping 19 bouts all season.
- Freshman foilist Noe Berger is 54-23 on the season, while Jack Holmes is 52-17 as well.
- In sabre, Eli Polston leads the entire team in bout wins with 63 on the season, while Graeme Mills has added 49 total wins. Freshman Ethan Levine also won six of his 12 bouts last weekend.
- Senior Jackson Dammann has won 10 of his 16 bouts this year, and has been a strong asset for the Brewers.
A Look at The Bulldogs (11-5):
- In their last match, the Bulldogs traveled to Penn State University for their first competition since early December.
- Yale was able to pull out with a winning record for the day, going 3-2 against some strong teams from around the nation.
- While Yale did fall to perennial power Penn State they were able to bounce back quickly against the University of North Carolina, winning 22-5.
- Yale's only other loss for the day came from defending national champion Columbia University, 17-10.
- Yale features one of the best fencers in the nation in sabre in Walter Musgrave, who finished 21st at last year's NCAA Championships.
- The epee team is led by Skyler Chin, who was 21st last year at the NCAA Championships, and has been fencing well during this his sophomore season.
- The Bulldogs finished the day with three wins and will be looking to carry their momentum going into Saturday against Vassar and Sacred Heart.
