Last Time Out: The Brewers faced off against the RIT Tigers last Saturday, eventually falling by a score of 86-83. Vassar put together an impressive 24-5 run to take the lead with just 29 seconds left, but came up just short due to the end-of-game Tiger free-throw shooting. Both Jesse Brown and
Mason Dyslin put in terrific performances, having 20 points and five assists, and 18 points and nine rebounds respectively.
A Look At The Brewers (5-14):
- Jesse Browne was named to the Liberty League Honor Roll on Monday, due to three great performances in three games last week. In these contests, he averaged 18.3 points on 47 percent shooting and totalled 10 boards, seven assists, and four steals.
- Vassar shot 48 percent from the field and 100 percent (10 for 10) from the free throw line against RIT.
- Alex Seff and Mason Dyslin lead the Brewers in rebounds, each averaging 4.9 per game. (Owen Murray also averages 4.9 per game, but has been out on injury since December.)
- Three Vassar players come into the game averaging double digits in points: Alex Seff (14.5), Jesse Browne (13.6) and Mason Dyslin (11.5).
- Five Vassar first-year players have contributed significantly this season. Owen Murray, Hunter Gettings, Mattie Mrlik, Kyle Kappes and Josh Brownridge have all played in at least ten games while starting in at least one as well.
- Chris Gallivan has contributed quality three-point shooting off the bench this season, going 7-of-11 from downtown.
- Due to injury, the Brewers have had a generally shifting starting lineup for a large portion of the season, with 14 players who have started. Despite this, Seff, Browne and Dyslin have provided consistency, each starting 18 of the team's 19 games.
- Jesse Brown has scored at least 20 points in the Brewers' past two contests.
- Browne and Seff lead all Brewers with 24 and 21 steals respectively, averaging 1.3 and 1.1 steals per game. Owen Murray has 19 steals in just 10 games, averaging 1.9.
- Vassar tends to play rather well at home, with four of its five wins coming in the AFC.
A Look At The Dutchmen (9-8):
- Union was on a four-game winning streak, all against Liberty League opponents, prior to its 90-85 loss to St. Lawrence on Saturday.
- Earlier this season when Union faced Vassar, the Dutchmen walked away with a 89-66 win. In this game, they shot 52 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Brewers 38-32.
- The last two Union losses came in very close games, as the team lost by five to St. Lawrence and lost by two to Clarkson in overtime on Jan. 7.
- On the season, Union is slightly better than its opponents in assists, rebounds and points per game.
- The Dutchmen have four players who score in the double-digits on average: Deshon Burgess (18.9), Wade McNamara (15.1), Kevin Weckworth (11.2) and Greg King (10.9).
- Burgess and Zachary Bouton lead the team in assists, with 45 and 34 respectively.
- Wade McNamara leads Union in rebounds with 9.8 per game.
- McNamara additionally leads the Dutchmen in steals with 24 overall or 1.4 per game.
- Kevin Weckworth leads Union in three-point field goals made, making 35 and shooting 39 percent.
- Over the season, the Dutchmen are 5-5 away, going 3-2 in their last five road contests.
Against Union All-Time: The Brewers are 9-35 against the Dutchmen all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1988. While the Brewers have lost their two most recent meetings with the Dutchmen, they came out victorious in the two games prior.
A Look At The Thoroughbreds (10-8):
- Skidmore comes into the game riding a six-game winning streak. All of these wins came in conference play.
- The Thoroughbreds' only conference loss came against RPI on Jan. 7 with a final score of 69-66.
- While Skidmore is 14-5 overall and just 4-4 away.
- On the season, Skidmore has outscored its opponents on average 77.2 to 68.5 points, while shooting 49 percent to its opponents' 41 percent.
- Edvinas Rupkus leads the team in scoring with an average of 18.8 points per game.
- Aldin Medunjanin and Royce Paris follow Rupkus in scoring, averaging 15.6 and 13.9 respectively.
- Rupkus also leads his Thoroughbreds in rebounds, averaging 7.5 per game.
- As a team, Skidmore shoots 39 percent from three and 80 percent from the free throw line.
- In Vassar and Skidmore's first meeting this season, the Thoroughbreds defeated the Brewers by a score of 76-55.
- In that game, Royce Paris scored a team-high 23 points and Edvinas Rupkus earned a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards.
Against Skidmore All-Time: Vassar is 19-28 against Skidmore all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1989. The two teams split games last season, with the Brewers winning the first contest 69-64, and Skidmore winning the second in overtime 71-69.
