Last Time Out: The Brewers have not swam in 10 days, since falling at Trinity College on January 14 in a non-conference meet. Vassar fell to the Bantams 181-89, but had some strong performances including junior
Jonah Strand winning the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke.
A Look At The Brewers:
- VC will continue to look to senior captains Anthony Walker and Chris Cerutti for leadership down the stretch, with less than a month until the biggest meet of the season in the Upper New York State College Swimming Championships.
- Walker was second in both of his swims against Trinity, as just missed the win in the 200 fly with a 2:00.61, being out-touched by Trinity's Liam Egan and his 2:00.46.
- The same narrative was in the cards for Walker in the 100 butterfly, as Vassar's standout flyer was just nabbed at the wall after swimming a 53.76.
- Junior Jonah Strand chalked up a pair of victories at Trinity, the first coming in the 100 breaststroke thanks a time of 1:00.55.
- Strand's second win came in the 200 breaststroke, as he ran away from the field with a 2:15.44, which was nearly 11 seconds better than the runner-up.
- Freshman Harrison Taylor, who was very strong during the training trip to Florida, was second in the 100 free with a 52.74 during the Trinity meet.
- Strand is currently ranked 82nd in the nation in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.81, which came December 3 at the Liberty League Championships.
- Freshman Jordan Kalina had a strong start to his last meet at Trinity College, as the newcomer posted a 10:27.31 to finish just over a second out of the top spot. He was then third in the 500 free with a 5:21.41.
- VC will look to Matthew Imiolek to step up for VC in the freestyle events, and also look for Cerutti to star in both the backstroke and free events as well.
A Look At The Setters:
- Pace has dropped its past three dual meets, though two were against Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes in Saint Peters University and Iona College. Pace fell to SPU 108-89, while dropping an 189-81 decision to the Gaels.
- Against Iona, sophomore Nianzhong Liu was a double winner for the men on Friday. He touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.10, and was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley at 1:56.98.
- Sophomore Andresious Cyprianos first in the 100-yard butterfly after clocking in at 52.45.
- Sophomore JunWoo Moon finished just behind Cyprianos in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.20.
- The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Moon, senior Dominick Mignano, Liu and Cyprianos finished in 1:37.32, taking second by 0.11 second.
- Pace will be celebrating Senior Day on Wednesday evening, as the squad's four seniors will be honored prior to the meet.
- Sophomore Daniel Galarza is ranked 68th national in Division II with a time of 9:51.29 in the 1000 free.
- Moon is currently 79th in Division II in the 100 backstroke, as he has a time of 51.90 as of Monday afternoon.
Up Next: Vassar will be back in the pool this Saturday afternoon, traveling to Skidmore College for the Sprint Invitational, starting at 1 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, NY.
