Last Time Out: The Brewers battled Hamilton College on Monday in a training trip relay meet, though team scores were not kept in the friendly competition. Before Monday's meet, Vassar was last in the pool competing in the Liberty League Championships, finishing sixth overall. Senior
Anthony Walker was strong at the event, finishing second in the 200 fly, while picking up All-Liberty League Second Team honors. Strand was also a Second Team All-Liberty League performer, as he took second in the 200 breaststroke.
A Look At The Brewers:
- The Brewers will compete in their first dual meet since November 12, when VC lost to the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 188-105. The span of two months is the longest dual meet drought over the last 15 years.
- Vassar has leaned on the duo of Strand and Walker this year, and for good reason, as the pair are both ranked in the top three in each of their respective strokes. Strand has the Liberty League's third-best 100 breast time, and second-fastest 200 breast finish.
- Walker is the Liberty League's top 200 fly swimmer as of this weekend, as he comes in with a 1:57.30 seed time. He also ranks second in the 100 fly and 10th in the 200 IM.
- Senior Chris Cerutti has done well with the backstroke for VC, while also ranking in the top 10 in the 400 individual medley as well with a 4:33.60 seed time.
- Freshman Jordan Kalina has been the Brewers best option in the distance free events, as he ranks sixth in the Liberty League in the 1000 free with a 10:37.52. He also ranks ninth in the 500 free (5:01.40).
- Lukas Harries and Ian LaBash will look to lead the sprint free groups for Vassar, while Walker will also swim the short and mid-distance free events for the Brewers.
- Freshman Harrison Taylor had a strong training trip meet against Hamilton, swimming a very strong 1:03.50 100 meter split in a 3x100 butterfly relay on a long course.
- In Monday afternoon's 200 free relay against Hamilton, freshman Matthew Imiolek led the Brewers with a 28.07 split over 50 meters.
- Vassar will have four meets before finishing the season at the biggest meet of the season, the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships at Ithaca Championships.
A Look at the Bantams:
- Trinity will host its first dual meets since falling to Bates College back on November 20, swimming Brandeis on Friday evening before welcoming in the Brewers Saturday afternoon.
- In their last meet, Trinity knocked off Clark 161-69 on December 10. Senior captain Doug Curtin led the Bantams with two individual wins, in the 200-meter IM and in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Trinity has a strong and deep freestyle group, led by Greg Kalmiskii, who ranks in the top 10 in the NESCAC in the 200, 500 and 1000 yard free events.
- Trip McConnell ranks 14th in the NESCAC in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.96, while Liam Egan is seventh in the NESCAC in the 100 fly with a time of 52.16.
- Kalmiskii, a freshman, is the top 200 butterfly swimmer for the Bantams, as he is fifth in the NESCAC with a time of 1:55.88 seed time. He also is fifth in the conference in the 100 backstroke.
- Nikola Kostic will also be a name to watch out for the Bantams, as he ranks in the top three in the 200, 500 and 1000 free for Trinity.
- John Dolan will also strengthen the breaststroke events for Trinity, as he is third in the 100 and first in seed time for the Bantams in the 200 breast.
Up Next: VC will continue its road swing on Wednesday afternoon, as it travels to Pace University at 6 p.m. for a non-conference meet with the Setters in the Big Apple.
