James Thomas notched his third-career hat trick, as the Vassar College men's lacrosse team topped Farmingdale State University on the road Wednesday, 12-8. Thomas was one of seven Brewers to find the back of the net.
Liam Moriarty (2 goals, 4 assists),
Noah Parson (2 goals, 2 assists),
Sam Houston-Read (2 goals, 1 assist),
Brandon DeStasio (1 goal, 2 assists),
Chris Billups (1 goal) and
Pat Gibbons (1 goal) all scored as well. Goalkeeper
Matt Boyd earned his second win of the season with 15 saves. The Brewers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, as the Rams never got within more than three.
A Look at the St. Lawrence Saints (11-1, 3-1 Liberty)The Saints are looking formidable as they enter Saturday's game on a three away-game win streak, defeating each of their opponents by a comfortable margin. Their most recent endeavor was a thrashing of Clarkson University, where they came away with a 16-8 victory. Goalkeeper Ryan Fisher recorded five blocks. Senior Jeremy Vantour and junior Jamie DeNicola have been in impressive form with both attackers netting seven goals apiece in the last week. However, the duo has not been alone in the Saints goal-scoring prowess – at least eight different players have scored in each of the last three games.
Against St. Lawrence All-TimeVassar is 1-14 against St. Lawrence since their first meeting in 2001. The Brewers will hope to record another win since their lone victory in 2011.
Liberty League Standings Vassar sits fourth in the Liberty League Standings, ahead of Union College (7-5, 2-2), Skidmore College (5-7, 1-3), Bard College (4-7, 0-3) and Clarkson University (2-9, 0-4), and behind Rochester Institute of Technology (11-0, 4-0), St. Lawrence University (11-1, 3-1) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (8-2, 3-1). Thus far in conference play, the Brewers have fallen only once, to third-place RPI, while beating both sixth-place Skidmore and last-place Clarkson University.
Thomas Times Three!Freshman
James Thomas had an incredible performance on Wednesday, recording his third hat trick in the burgundy and gray. The attacker has been an indomitable character in the Brewer's frontline, scoring in each of the last seven games, a consistency only matched by his captain senior
Noah Parson.
A Helping HandWith a season-high four assists, junior
Liam Moriarty will look to continue to add to his assist tally of the year against the Saints. Already, he's notched 17 assists, more than any other player on his team this season.
Parsing ParsonThe senior record holder has produced some incredible statistics thus far in the season. Starting in every game, he's found the net in each, placing nearly three-fourths of his shots on goal and finishing over half of those. He will indubitably yearn to add more girth to both of his substantial season and career repertoires.
Points, Points, Points! In their record-setting season, the Brewers have individually amassed more points than ever. Six, led by senior
Noah Parson, junior Sam Houston Reed, and junior
Liam Moriarty, have found their point total in the double digits.
Persistent PreziosoJunior defender
Eric Prezioso has been an integral part of the Brewers defense this season, causing nearly one turnover every game. His season-high five caused turnovers against Swarthmore boosted the Brewers to a 11-7 win.
Unassailable Assists!Of the over 110 goals scored by the Brewers this season, less than 35 have been an individual effort. In fact, over 70 percent of the goals have been sublimely assisted before reaching the back of the net.
Net Rampage! And speaking of the net, the front line's consistency in front of goal has been impeccable. Over one out of every three shots on target has found the white, perforated netting.
Up NextThe Vassar men's lacrosse team competes at Williams College (Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m.) before beginning their final two home games of the season (Saturday, April 23 at 12 p.m).
