Brewers Stifle Springfield, 13-7

Four Brewers post three points, Holt wins 15 face-offs

Poughkeepsie, NY – Four Brewers finished with three points, Danny Holt (Rochester, MI) won 15 face-offs and the defensive unit held Springfield to just seven goals as the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team stopped a three-game losing streak with a 13-7 home win over the Pride Wednesday afternoon.
 
With Wednesday's win Vassar improves to 6-7 on the season while Springfield falls to 8-5 through 13 contests.
 
How It Happened
  • After Springfield opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest, Vassar ripped off four straight goals to grab the lead for good in the game.
  • Michael Carroll (Glastonbury, CT) evened the score for the Brewers and a player-up goal from Travis Heller (Lafayette, NJ) at the 2:50 mark of the first quarter pushed Vassar in front 4-1.
  • The Pride scored the final goal of the first frame and opened the second period scoring to climb to within 4-3.
  • Heller added another play-up tally and assisted on a Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) goal that moved the Brewers in front 6-3 with 7:38 left before halftime.
  • Charlie Vath and Bryan Stensrood brought the visitors to with 6-5 late in the second frame, but Carroll's second marker of the game with 22 seconds left in the half sent Vassar to the intermission with a 7-5 advantage.
  • First half shots were even at 17-17, but the Brewers controlled face-offs 10-4 over the opening 30 minutes.
  • Vassar allowed just two second half goals to Springfield, outscoring the Pride 6-2 after halftime.
  • The Brewers scored the first three goals of the third quarter, including a Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) marker off the opening face-off in the opening seconds of the second half.
  • Tinker added a goal with 1:25 left in the stanza to send the Brewers into the final 15 minutes with an 11-6 lead.
  • Patrick McGowan started the scoring for Springfield in the final period, but goals from John Malone (Devon, PA) and Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) finished off the scoring in the game.
  • Vassar held a 20-17 advantage in shots after halftime and won eight of the 10 face-offs taken.
 
For The Brewers
  • Malone and Heller each finished the win with two goals and an assist with Malone adding two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Carroll tallied twice and collected a pair of groundballs.
  • Tinker finished with a hat trick and two groundballs for the Brewers.
  • Arcuri totaled three points on a goal and two helpers, adding two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Beckett Wolf (Park City, UT) scored once, assisted on a goal and collected eight groundballs.
  • Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) assisted on a goal and forced two turnovers.
  • Aiden Santoro (Water Mill, NY) forced two miscues and collected two groundballs.
  • Holt was an efficient 15-for-19 face-offs and scooped eight groundballs.
  • Landon Silverstein (Deer Park, NY) was 3-for-5 in face-offs and added a groundball.
  • Jess Geoghagan (Mercer Island, WA) earned the win in goal with seven saves.
 
For The Pride
  • Stensrud scored three times, caused two turnovers and scooped two groundballs.
  • Vath finished with two goals and an assist.
  • Ryan Berkel scored once and assisted on a goal to go along with a caused turnover and a groundball.
  • Angus Oliviera caused three turnovers and scooped four groundballs.
  • Dominic Savastano won six face-offs.
  • Joseph Grenier suffered the loss in goal with 11 stops.
