NEW HAVEN, CT (January 30, 2016 ) – The Vassar College men's fencing team traveled to Connecticut to take on the Bulldogs of Yale University Saturday, falling narrowly to Yale 15-12 in non-conference play from the Yale Fencing Salon.
The Brewers earned squad wins in men's epee and men's sabre, but a 8-1 Bulldogs decision in men's foil was the difference on Saturday. Vassar's sabre team posted its sixth straight squad win Saturday with a 5-4 triumph, as Zach Wilson and
Eli Polston each picked up a pair of victories.
Campbell Woods also collected a bout victory for the Brewers.
In men's epee, Vassar College came to fence on Saturday, picking up a 6-3 win in that weapon. Sophomore
Jonathan Alperstein was unblemished on the day, going a perfect 3-0, while fellow sophomore
George Whiteside added a pair of victories and
Ry Farley also earned a triumph.
Unfortunately though for the Brewers,
Tom Racek was the only Vassar College foil fencer to earn a win against Yale, as the host Bulldogs pulled away for the win.
Vassar College will return to the strip next Saturday afternoon at Smith College, as the Brewers look to finish in the top three of the Northeast Fencing Conference in the final day of conference action.
