Last Time OutSenior Matthew Gold scored a game-high four goals to lead Clarkson University to a 15-11 victory over Vassar in the team's final Liberty League contest of the year on April 25.
A Look at the Garnet (6-8, 1-7 Centennial)Swarthmore enters its final game of the 2015 slate 6-8 on the season, missing out on the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 1-7 league record. The Garnet will look to snap a six-game losing streak when they host the Brewers on Wednesday, as a 13-9 victory over Misericordia back on March 28 was the team's last win. Swarthmore lost two one-goal overtime games over that span, which included a tough 10-11 defeat to No. 3 Gettysburg College on April 4.
Senior Andrew Preiser has led the Garnet attack in 2015, posting a team-best 29 assists while adding 14 goals on the year. Ian Lukaszewicz (25) and Cam Marsh (22) have been the team's top goal scorers, the only two player son the squad with over 20 goals. Stephen Ducey and Mike Selverian have combined to take the bulk of the faceoffs for Swarthmore this season, holding a 57.0% winning percentage on the year. Cole Fox has made 11 starts in goal for the Garnet this year, holding a 10.05 GAA and .564 save percentage.
Against Swarthmore All-TimeVassar and Swarthmore have played just twice in the all-time series between the two schools, with the Garnet picking up both wins in 2000 and 2014. Swarthmore earned a 15-10 over the Brewers last season at Weinberg Field despite a fourth quarter comeback bid from the Brewers. Then-sophomore
Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline) led the way for VC with four goals.
Second Time is a Charm The Brewers and Garnet will play tomorrow after the game originally scheduled for March 7 was cancelled due to snow accumulation.
Going for History Vassar will have an opportunity to make history against Swarthmore, as one more win will set a new program record for wins in a season. VC has already tied the school record with six wins this season.
Season of GoalsJunior
Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) moved into a tie with James Wilson ('99) on the all-time list for goals in a season, scoring the 33rd of his 2015 campaign against the Clarkson last weekend. The mark tops his previous season-best (31) from the 2013 season, while Parson is also now third all-time in career goals (83) passing Thomas Board ('04) on the all-time list last weekend. Next on the list will be Pa McAlphine ('04) who finished with 84 career strikes.
Man-Up for ItNoah Parson now stands alone in the all-time ranks in man-up goals, scoring the 14
th of his career last weekend against Union. Parson was previously tied with Jack Gross ('12) on the career list with 13.
100 Club Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) scored his 100
th career point (60 G, 40 A) in the burgundy and gray after notching his second assist of the game against Clarkson. Brekne is the only player in program history with 300 faceoff wins, 300 groundballs and 100 points in his career. Brekne will likely be the only player to accomplish this feat for many years to come.
Career Day in the CageFreshman goalie
Erik Mikelinich (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills HS West) racked up a season (and career) best 19 saves on Saturday against Clarkson, including eight stops in the fourth quarter alone. Mikelinich now holds a .448 save percentage in his first collegiate season.
4-for-30 Three different Brewers have surpassed 30 points this season, including
Noah Parson (31 G, 8 A),
Liam Moriarty (23 G, 10 A),
Sam Houston-Read (15 G, 16 A) and
Scott Brekne (19 G, 11 A).
Sean Brazier (28) and
Chris Billups (28) could also hit 30 points in the team's final game of the year.
Into the Top 10 Sophomore
Austin Haymes (Palm Beach Gardens, FL/William T Dwyer) cracked into the top ten single season list for caused turnovers at Vassar this month now with 17 on the year. Haymes is now tied for seventh with Jeremy Gottlieb ('12) and teammate
Eric Prezioso on the season list.
The Opposition Vassar has played the 101
st toughest schedule in Division III lacrosse based on opponents' records, as teams Vassar have played this season have combined to go 99-92. Included in that mix was five nationally ranked teams.
Leading Men Only seven teams have held a lead on RIT this season, ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation in the latest USILA Coaches Poll. Of those seven teams, Vassar has held the second longest lead over the Tigers at 8:30 after the Brewers went up 2-1 in the first quarter on April 11. Vassar is the only team to not be nationally ranked at any point this season to hold a lead on the Tigers.
