Box Score POTSDAM, NY (April 25, 2015) - Senior Matthew Gold scored a game-high four goals to lead Clarkson University to a 15-11 victory over Vassar in the team's final Liberty League contest of the year Saturday afternoon. VC drops to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the conference with the defeat.
Junior Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) moved into a tie with James Wilson ('99) on the all-time list for goals in a season, scoring the 33rd of his 2015 campaign against the Golden Knights. Parson will set a new single-season scoring record with one more goal this year.
The Golden Knights, who closed out the regular season with a 7-7 overall record and a 4-3 Liberty League mark, are the fourth seed in the conference postseason tournament and will play at number-one seed Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday.
Sophomore Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newton South) posted a team-high five points for the Brewers on three goals and two assists. Clarkson senior Mark Nortz and sophomore Ryan St. Croix both scored three goals. St. Croix also added three assists for a game-high seven points.
After the sides battled to a 1-1 tie through the opening 15 minutes, Clarkson would score eight of the next 10 goals to hold a commanding 10-4 lead early in the second half.
The Knights outscored Vassar 6-3 in the second quarter and then tallied three quick goals to start the third stanza for a six-goal lead less than three minutes into the half.
Clarkson led 12-7 through three quarters. The Golden Knights built their margin to 15-8 with 6:25 to play before Vassar cut the deficit by scoring the game's last three goals.
Clarkson outshot the Brewers 48-29 and controlled ground balls 40-17.
Senior Dylan Broomfield had a big down on the faceoff for the Golden Knights, winning 25-of-30 while scooping up a season-high 16 ground balls.
Vassar will play its final game of the regular season on the road against Swarthmore College on Wednesday, April 29 at 7 pm.
