What to Look For
This past weekend, the Brewers faced off against the University of Rochester. After dropping two games on Saturday, including a tightly contested 4-3 nightcap, the Brewers were able to earn a split on Sunday, falling 1-0 in eight innings, before rallying to defeat the Yellowjackets 5-2 in the afternoon soiree. With the win, Vassar snapped Rochester's 17-game winning streak, while ending their own four-game skid. However, the Brewers were still eliminated from the playoffs over the weekend.

A Look at the Raptors (5-22, 1-15 Liberty League)
Bard has had a difficult season, with their first eight games getting either postponed or cancelled. Once they started play, the Raptors struggled, dropping their first nine games of the season, before sweeping a doubleheader series against Elmira. The team has not had much luck in the Liberty League either, although, like the Brewers, Bard was able to take a game from league-leading Rochester, the only league game the Yellowjackets had lost prior to their four-game series with Vassar. In their past four games, Bard has gone 2-2, with wins over Southern Vermont and NYU, and two close losses to NYU as well.

The Raptors are led at the plate by freshman second baseman and reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week David Schlosser, who is hitting .427 on the season. Schlosser also has a team-high 38 hits. Sophomore first baseball Adam Carafotes is second on the team with 36 hits, and has a team-high .500 slugging percentage. In addition, Carafotes has recorded a team-leading nine doubles. At the mound, junior Alec Montecalvo has a team-high 3.58 ERA over 32.2 innings, going 2-4 on the season. Sophomore JP Fisher has a team-leading 20 strikeouts. On the field, Carafote leads the team with 194 putouts with just a single error, and is tenth in the Liberty League with a .994 fielding percentage.

Against Bard All-Time
Vassar currently leads the series 4-0. The teams first met last season for a four-game series on May 3-4, 2014. Vassar swept the series, scoring ten or more runs in three of the four games.

Big Erk
Sophomore pitcher Adam Erkis (Villanova, Pa/Radnor), despite earning the loss, had an outstanding day on Sunday against Rochester, allowing just five hits and one earned run in 7.2 innings, while striking out five batters. On the season, Erkis has a team-high 23 strikeouts.

Jet Setter
Junior right fielder Nick Johnson (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius Prep) had a huge day on Saturday, going 5-for-7 from the plate, including a perfect 3-for-3 in the first game. On the season, Johnson is second on the team with a .357 batting average, and first on the team with 11 RBIs and a .529 slugging percentage.

Clutch Outing
In the Sunday nightcap, freshman pitcher Derek DeMild (Peabody, MA/Peabody Veterans Memorial) allowed just two runs on three hits over four innings to earn the only Vassar win of the weekend. The win was DeMild's first of the season.

Hit Machine
Freshman third baseman Bobby Kinne (Great Barrington, MA/Monument Mountain Regional) had a very consistent weekend for the Brewers, recording a hit in each of the four games, including two in the first game on Saturday. Kinne leads the team with 26 hits and a .400 batting average on the season.

Senior Sensation
Senior second baseman Kyle Casey (San Diego, CA/Vista) was on fire in the first game on Sunday, going 3-for-3 from the plate. On the season, Casey is batting .250, with 12 hits in 48 total at-bats.

Return Of The McCormack
Senior outfielder Dan McCormack (Nashua, NH/Nashua) was impressive at the plate for the Brewers, going 2-for-3 in the first game on Saturday, and recording an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the Sunday nightcap.

Up Next
After this weekend, Vassar will travel to Purchase, NY to take on Manhattanville College on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at 4 p.m., before ending its season with three home games. The Brewers will take on John Jay on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m., and then face off with the City College of New York in a double header on Sunday, May 3, starting at 1 p.m.
